Taking STS201 with Professor Williford genuinely impacted the trajectory of my college career. His lectures are very engaging, and he is able to create stories that are interest you in the material. He was also kind to me when I was dealing with a lot of issues through the semester, providing me flexibility without me needing to "prove" anything.
For an elementary class, this was way too much work. Grading was unclear and him and his TA never seemed to be on the same page which made things confusing. He obviously is knowledgeable about the topics, but he seemed to just yap in class rather than give us the important material. I don't recommend this class, too much work for what it's worth.
if you are not sure which course would give you humanity credit, take him! I take this class just for cr. but end in loving science history
I loved HISCI160 and Professor Williford's way of teaching. I was actually learning and retaining the material since the lectures are interesting if you don't stress about understanding every piece of information and instead just get the big picture. I never did the readings and the homework is not hard. He reminds me of Jessie Eisenberg
I loved Prof. Williford's class, at the first his lectures are a little unconventional and are sometimes a lot, but once you realize he is not expecting you to remember every word and instead he is telling stories that you just need to remember the broad strokes of the lectures and the class gets a lot better.
genuinely hate this class so much. Daniel is very very knowledgeable, but I wish he would say things in a bit more colloquial terms (not all of us have PhDs) or would at least add some inflection/excitement to his tone. This class is not at all what I expected, and I wish I had not taken it as I do not see how it will ever help me.
I had Daniel for Hist Sci 160, and he was a fantastic professor and one of my favorites from UW-Madison. Very accomodating, super clear grading criteria, and a well-respected teacher all around. Would absolutely take a class with him again!
Super aware that students have lives outside of class and generously gives extensions and accommodations when needed.
Dr. Williford is a great professor. The work load is extremely reasonable and the grading is not harsh at all. He sympathizes with his students and actually cares a ton about them. Expect weekly readings and mandatory attendance. Participation is required as it makes up for your grade. As long as you put in effort, you will get an A!
You can tell Williford knows what he's talking about and tries to find ways to engage students with the content. Lots of work for an elementary credit, but it makes sure you're actually learning. There are easier classes if you're looking for an elective, but it's a good one if you have the time to put in the effort. Good overall if you like STS!
Professor Williford's lectures were super interesting and the readings were manageable and usually were interesting and related to course material. I definitely recommend this class to anyone, I learned a lot and much of the material is relevant to the present day.
