Amazing lecturer-- super caring and explicit about the expectations for the class. Homework usually consisted of one or two readings along with a weekly quiz, which were extremely manageable. The course grade is primarily based on exams, but they are multiple choice and fairly easy if you attend lecture and pay attention.

There are a bunch of readings and a quiz to complete every week. The lectures were kinda boring and unengaging. It was also hard to follow and make notes because the content was presented in a very discombobulated manner. However, some things said in lectures aren't otherwise present in the class materials but will be tested on the exam.

Professor Kelly was great. He has a good sense of humor and is clearly caring about his students. One of the only professor's I've taken that can get through their whole slide show in class. The class can be lecture-heavy with mandatory discussions but if you pay attention and study the week before an exam, you'll do great.

Super interesting and super easy class, you will not go wrong taking this class with Clay. Mandatory discussions though

Geosci 110 was my favorite class this semester! Clay is a great guy and makes lecture really interesting and fun. He is extremely clear about everything that you need to know, gives out good study guides, and has very fair tests. He's very personable and genuine. The content itself is really interesting as well!

clay is by far one of the best professors at uw. he's understanding and truly cares about his students. weekly quizzes outside of class help gauge your comprehension of mentioned topics in class and the reading, with 4 midterms and a cumulative final. he teaches at an easy level that is digestible for any major.

Clay was actually such a good professor. I found the class very interesting and his lecture were really nice. There was little confusion throughout the course. You get weekly readings and a quiz on the readings, but it's open note/ get all weekend to complete. I would totally recommend. He is so nice and understanding.

Clay is a great professor, his lectures are pretty interesting. The only graded things are the four exams, weekly reading quizzes, and discussion attendance. Weekly reading quizzes can have a few confusing questions but otherwise are pretty straightforward and are all online with no time limit. Exams are all multiple choice!

Geosci 110 on evolution and extinction has been one of my favorite classes taken through 3 years so far here. The content was super interesting and really changed my outlook on life. Excellent professor.

Probably the most entertaining and interesting lectures I've seen in college. Love his vibe and class was very educational, without much work.

Dr. Kelly was a wonderful teacher ! He loves what he does and really expresses that during his lectures . He makes it fun and understanding . The class is easy overall , however he likes to make the questions tricky on exams . Overall this class and Dr. Kelly are a great choice!

Clay is a fantastic professor and is someone I hope to run into on campus one of these days so I can have a causal talk with as he seems like a great guy! Overall as long as you do the short weekly readings and about the 2-3 hours of lecture a week this class is an easy A!

Clay is a super great professor, and he give really clear and understandable lectures. If you do the readings and listen during class you will pass no problem. Clay is also really sweet and helpful.

He gives very engaging lectures and is always happy to answer questions after class.

Clay tries to make his class engaging and answers any and all questions. He has a very inviting southern accent and makes class feel very casual. If you take notes on a device, you will have to switch over to a notebook for this class as he does not allow electronics. Definitely the easiest class I've ever taken - it really helps to have a friend.

Probably my favorite professor thus far at UW. Absolutely hilarious and very knowledgeable, so even if you don't like the material you will be entertained and engage in lecture. His lectures are the only at UW I never got bored in. Two midterms and one final, do the reading and attend lecture/discussion and you should ace them. Loved this class!

The class is comprised of the lectures and a weekly discussion. The weekly discussion has a very easy quiz attached to it, that even if you skim the reading, you should be able to get full points on. Clay himself makes it very clear what will and will not be on the exam by providing a very robust study guide. Overall very clear and concise class.

Took this as a pre business student hoping to get my science class out of the way. Be warned, you need to work for this class! Did more studying here than anywhere all year. Ruined my record of straight A's. That being said, it was extremely interesting and helpful and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest. Kelly is such a homie also.

I took this class for that same reason as many other students, the L&S Breadth credits and it ended up being one of my favorite classes this semester. Clay's lectures are interesting and engaging; I looked forward to class every week. That being said, don't expect an easy class. The averages for the midterms were in the 70s and questions tough.

Hilarious guy, makes lecture a lighthearted and fun experience, even if the only topic is carbon emission rates in the Precambrian period. He finds the humor and levity in learning.

Nicest prof! Very interested in his own work and therefore teachers it great. Expectations of the class are very unclear, but just email him for almost every single assignment for clarity otherwise you will get screwed over. Totally recommend him though! Do the textbook readings as well, make lectures so much more easier to follow

Personally I enjoy geology, so I enjoyed 204. It's a really interesting class that covers all of earth history. Clay is a really cool guy and is always willing to help.

Prof. Kelly is super chill and is a pretty cool guy. The exams are all about the powerpoints, which he puts online.

Pretty easy, good for the physical science requirement. Is NOT just marine mammals, deals with everything about the ocean so don't expect marine biology. Good professor, approachable and usually helpful. Puts all the lecture slides online, too.

Clay Kelly taught me how to love a woman, and how to scold a child.

Clay Kelly is possibly the nicest man ever. He is so interested in the material and motivates others to get interested about it. he relates to students very well and is willing to help out with anything. he's just a great guy all around. the class is a 300 level, it's going to be a bit difficult, but it's interesting. and he is not a dumbass at all

CLAY KELLY RULES. he's pretty much my favorite professor ever. besides charlie byers.

He is the son of a whale and a great white. Wrestles Grizzly Bears when he isnt teaching class.

very easygoing, approachable professor.

this teacher is a complete dumbass, he literally reads the book in lecture and cant answer a single question- stay far away from him.

i dont find the class particularly interesting, but prof kelly is a fun guy. not a very interesting lectureor; takes EVERYTHING from the book, but i imagine he'd be awesome to be out on a boat with in the middle of the ocena somewhere.

Totally boring class - Kelly teaches nothing beyond what's in the book and is stumped by all questions in lecture.

Are you people joking!?! he is a lousy professor who uses words he doesnt even know the definition of! his powerpoints are directly from the textbook and he doesnt know anything except for what he reads. i could teach this class better than he is. i would like to thank him for clarifying that a core splitter actually splits the core. shocking!

Very funny lecturer. Clay knows his stuff and loves what he does. Very nice, down to earth, willing to talk with students. A little slow on grading/handing back exams. Exams are very easy if you look over the material. Getting an A shouldn't be a problem.

Laid back guy with a great sense of humor! Clay's lectures were informative, though not very organized. He was clearly knowledgeable on the material, though he had some difficulty explaining without his PowerPoint. Started reading off the slides to us as we reached the end of the semester :(

funny lecturer, relevant life experiences to share with class, power point lecture with material straight from the book. very enjoyable

Loves what he teaches. Especially forams and coccoliths (you will know once you take the class). Great guy, relaxed, very helpful. Great life experiences that are pertinent to topics.

Lots of real life experience; I could see this guy diving in and swimming with some of the creatures he teaches about
