Christy is an amazing person and professor, she really does care about her students. The exams were not cumulative but did require effort on the students part outside of class. Group project was easy if you picked reliable people to work with. Interesting content and worth taking, I totally recommend.
The material in the class was fascinating, but it was also a fairly difficult class. Professor Tremonti is a pretty good lecturer, and I always looked forward to hearing her talk about the topic for the week. The class is moderately difficult, so only take Astronomy 103 if you think you'll find Astronomy interesting.
Prof Tremonti is a very nice person but I found her lectures pretty hard to follow. She also does not answer emails which can be very difficult and it seems like there are communication problems in general between her and the TAs. This class felt like we were just memorizing a bunch of facts so not that interesting. It is an easy class though.
lectures were so engaging. tests were about 90% lecture, and I found the best way to study was by making review sheets for each lecture. I would've gotten an A over A/B if I had ensured that my discussion exercises were 100% correct. Final was easy! not a no-study class but relatively straightforward. Don't drop this class! don't buy the book
Professor Tremonti is very enthusiastic about teaching astronomy but she adds very little to the lecture. The discussion section exercises are very lengthy and don't correlate much to the exams/quizzes. She did have extra credit. Final isn't weighted more than midterms and you get one drop. There are easier science classes to choose from though
I really enjoyed this class and Professor Tremonti's lectures, she does a great job at explaining complex concepts in a graspable way. The discussion sections of this course were very math heavy and felt a little disconnected from the lectures, but in tandem they did a good job of preparation for the midterm exams which make up most of your grade.
I loved this class, the instructor was very helpful. I just wish they were a bit more organized with the McBurney emails. Advocate for yourself when you don't receive your response in time as the instructors do get busy very often!!!
Dont bother taking this course if you are looking for an easy 3-credit physical science course. Exams are long-answer and you basically have to memorize everything from lectures to do good. She was behind on grading the entire semester, we got our 2nd midterm grade a day AFTER our final. Grades group projects way too hard and doesnt answer email
This class is not it. This semester she had I think one Or TAs so it was difficult to even ask her about our grades in class because she could never grade or homework quizzes or exams on time, second exam graded 3 days before final . This class is all memorization and its hard to stay engage when shes reading from the slide, overall not fun.
She is a great person but astro 170 is basically a class that shoves TONS of information down your throat and you just have to remember it. The units are very dense and you have to either understand it or be really good at remembering the information to do well on the exams. Group projects aren't too bad.
She really organizes all the important information in the lectures slides and is super helpful on the group HW assignments. She is always willing to schedule a meeting to help you. The class can seem a bit random at times, so be ready for that. Most of the information is very surface level, and there is a ton of new info and acronyms. Great prof!!
She was a great professor, but I think the format of the course made it harder for me. We had two asynch lectures per week with 2 quizzes each, and then a small group discussion. When my group and I struggled with the concepts, I felt disadvantaged because we didn't have any guidance during these sections. Tests were hard, Quizzes were easy.
Christy is a great professor. I had her in Astronomy 150: Dark Matter, Dark Energy and Black Holes. She is enthusiastic about the material and it is easy to indulge yourself in the material. As long as you are interested in the material, an A is quite attainable. Go to class! Not only does she count participation, but her lectures are worthwhile.
Christy is a great professor of astronomy. Her lectures are interesting and she does a great job explaining everything. It may take her a little longer to grade everything, but she is great overall! Also, the class doesn't have much homework which is a plus.
reads off slides. fairly easy tests if u go through the slides before tests. very interesting material but boring lectures.
I loved Christy! She's charmingly awkward, kind, and straight-forward. As a humanities student, I was surprised by how much I liked this class. It's really interesting and it's not too hard.
Christy is an awesome professor. She cares so much about her students--she even wrote lectures and review sheets for us while on emergency maternity leave. This class is not very easy, but go to her office hours. She is a huge help and so nice! You'll love her.
