Livanos is a very down-to-earth and sweet guy. I want to protect him from the world. He is super understanding and accommodating. Easy grader and just wants people to learn and come to class.

Super awesome professor. Makes class very fun and interesting. Has a great personality and makes classes enjoyable.

SOOOOOOOOOO much reading! The schedule is almost impossible to follow correctly and everyone I talked to was always behind. The pop quizzes are easy, but would be much less stressful and just as effective if we were told about them. The format of the class is so anxiety-inducing, if you struggle with handling stress or anything I do not recommend.

The big thing to know about Livanos is that he talks really slowly, and sometimes loses track of what he's saying, which I thought was endearing, but some might find it annoying. We read Tolkien's books and the brief wondrous life of oscar wao and wrote three papers over the semester, he's a very easy grader, and a huge nerd. Excellent for lit!

His lectures are kind of boring, but if you go, pay attention to what he says and regurgitate what he says on exams you'll get an A.

He is not a great lecturer and doesn't prepare any visual presentations for class to help with learning the material. The exams were kind of tough because you have to identity passages from all the books you have read and it can get kind of tough, studying for it was not fun. The papers are pretty straight forward and give you a lot of leeway.

I was in the Monstrosity in Literature course, and the themes and books discussed in class were really interesting. We had three papers over the semester. I absolutely hated the exams. He gave us passages to identify from the books and we had to write about them. I can't remember names or write much in a short amount of time so it was a lil rough

Chris was an awesome teacher. I had absolutely no interest in Scottish Folklore, but the class was easy to get an A in. I definitely didn't go to very many classes, but if you put a lot of effort into the essays, you will be ok.

Prof. Livanos was a pretty funny guy, and in a class called scary monsters, he made it even more interesting than it needed to be. Very likely that he will go on tangents about category crisis or whatever other stuff, but he's funny and really cares about the material and his students. If you read it's an easy A.

Great Professor! Lot's of reading but an A is very possible for anyone.

It depends on what class. I had Livanos for Tolkien & Mythology, a relatively small class, with no TA. He did all of the grading himself, and easily gave A's. He's a bit scatterbrained and can go off on tangents, but overall he is very entertaining, fun, and passionate. There's lots of reading, and actually reading is very beneficial for papers.

Livanos is alright. He sets the criteria for an A at 95% but offers extra credit in the form of a 1500 word essay during finals week. He grades almost literally nothing so hope for an easy TA. His lectures were optional and unnecessary to do well. Disc is not. He was very responsive to all emails and questions. 3 big, 5 small essays. 11 books.

Professor Livanos was great. His lecturing style was very fresh, insightful, and funny. He allowed for in-depth discussion of the material, and allowed for many different interpretations of the texts. It was easily my favorite literature classes I've taken, and one of the most enjoyable semesters I've had at UW. Take a class of his!

I loved this class! Professor Livanos was extremely knowledgeable of Tolkien and Medieval Literature. He provided thought-provoking arguments, was open-minded, and encouraged us to come up with new ideas. Grading is tough but there were extra credit opportunities. He was sorta scatter-brained, but I found him amusing. Lots of reading but worth it!

Decent professor. He was definitely knowledgeable on the material and was very passionate about it, but he sets and overly ambitious reading schedule. The deadlines are ideal if this is the only class you take, but not for reality. His essay prompts are a bit vague, but he gives a LOT of paper analysis material in his lectures.

Interesting to listen to and great at teaching, you can tell he really loves the material. Lectures optional, and he gave an extra credit paper this semester. However, TA's do all the grading so there's no telling how hard the grading will be.

I'm still trying to figure out why everyone loved Professor Livanos so much. He's a very scatter-brained man who was sometimes hard to follow in lecture. A lot of the comparisons he made were to ancient, classic literature that no one had read. I had a terrible TA and you need >94% to get an A, but otherwise I think the class would've been easier.

Really great professor. Very passionate. Science fiction is not my thing but he still made lectures enjoyable. Go to lecture, he outlines every passage that you will be tested on. Also good material to write your papers. Reading not required at all. Maxwell is a good TA! Easy lit credit for sure. AB without reading half the books.

Excellent Professor, Lectures are important to get the feel of what he wants for his papers

Amazing class, great professor

Captivating, thought-provoking and unique sense of humor. Lectures were bearable, his words usually relevant and interesting. Midterm and final were relatively easy as long as you went to lecture. Quotes on the exams were always discussed in class. Reading not required, but I'd recommend it. Overall great professor. Marryam was a great TA as well.

I took professor livanos as a freshman both semesters. I'm a junior now and he still remains my favorite professor here on campus. Great lecturer and the readings are goodg. If you want an A go to lecture go to discussion. He outlines every single passage in lecture that will be on the tests so reading isnt really that necesarry. Great experience.

This guy is a goofball but LOVES what he's teaching. Class was easy, and more interesting than I thought for mythology. GPA booster?-definitely. For TA: take Jessica Gross, she is the best.

Livanos absolutely loves this subject. Not so into myths myself but he did a great job of teaching. Go to lecture! write what he says in lecture on the exams and you'll do great. he pretty much tells you exactly what to write. be careful of your ta though.

Loves what he teaches! Gives many clues as to what quotes will be on exam. Doesn't care about grammar!!! Half of my discussion was taking the class just because he was teaching it, and I can see why. He's funny and highly entertaining!

Livanos rambles and gets easily excited which can get annoying at times. I respect him for being so passionate about the material he teaches, but sometimes it just gets old. The class is a pretty easy way to get Lit. credits and boost your GPA. Tests are easy as he makes the ID passages very long and obvious, you can just BS your way through them.

Funny guy and very knowledgeable. I guess it was a lot of reading but I never noticed because it was so interesting- though Tolkien might be more interesting than other topics for 203. I wish I was more interested in literature because I'd love to have him as a professor again.

He is a very interesting and goofy guy, which makes you want to attend class. Had to write 3 short papers, all of which were graded very easily. If you need lit credits, I would recommend it.

He's pretty funny and makes lectures interesting because he deeply analyzes the texts and has a passion for Tolkien and his work. The class requires tons of readings, but other than that it's not bad at all.

Annoying voice! But funny guy. Made uninteresting material quite interesting.

Awesome books (for the most part) and really interesting lectures. Tough grading scale.. an A is 95+ but an A/B is a piece of cake if you pay attention. Watch out for who your TA is for discussion! That can make or break the whole class.

first semester readings can get very boring, and can be skimmed. the best part of the class is the lectures which are entertaining and insightful. discussion, especially with a terrible TA, are pretty useless but mandatory. difficult to get an A. good class to take if you like philosophy, religion, and analysis.

Livanos was very fun, funny, and open to student voices. Analyzes the texts very well. Take the class if interested.

Livanos is hilarious. I love it when he's mean to people who say idiotic things in lecture. Very intelligent and interesting. Class was fair, the reading sometimes got a little long and monotonous, but he always had interesting things to say about it. I recommend any course with him, expecially if you like a cynical sense of humor.

Entertaining guy, lectures aren't too bad. I don't know why his easiness rating is so high, a lot of people I talked to get 90-94's on papers, but you need a 95 for an A. Discussion is mandatory, but pretty useless. We just did random activities relating to the book and discussed. Very easy to get an AB because they grade so easily, 95 is tougher.

This class is easy, but has become more difficult. There are 2 1500 word papers, a mid term, and a final. Also, need a 95 to get an A, but the AB range is about a 86 to 94. There was also an extra credit essay that could increase your total grade by up to 10%. If you do the extra credit report, show up to class, and take notes you should get an A.

Hilarious prof who says something extremely funny at least once per lecture. His midterm and final were easy if you read the books and take notes. The papers are generally easy but make you think. Grading scale is tough though, you need a 95 for an A.

Chris is an awesome professor. I recommend any class he is teaching! He's hilarious, but while he's telling jokes he really knows his stuff. He makes class fun and entertaining, while you really learn a lot. Definately watch out for the pop quizzes, they can get you sometimes.

Very easy. After the first paper he announced, "The papers were good. Everyone either got an A or an A-." Classes were amusing. Easy going.

He is a professor-wanna-be-stand-up-comedian. Very entertaining and doesn't believe in exams.

His classes are super easy. No attendance mandatory, and no tests...he grades the 1000 word papers very easily. Beware of a few pop quizzes though.
