Incredibly dense class, but he makes it work. His lectures are good, he uses a lot of graphs to help you understand different theorems and such. His homework problems are long and difficult, but they're (usually) fair, and they do a great job at solidifying your understanding of different topics and theorems. One of my favorite lecturers at UW.

Horrible professor. Disorganized, difficult to understand, lectures were like watching someone stumble around in the dark and not know how to lead anybody anywhere. It's hard to hate listening to a lecture in British accent, but somehow Rycroft managed it. Please don't subject yourself to taking a class with Rycroft.

Very average professor, lectures are basically just repeating his slides. He's so good at what he does, it feels like a show off to listen to him. He can't make low-level students learn things, only high level students learn more.

got F in 514 for academic misconduct

Had me confused the entire semester.

Great teacher. Has a very good understanding of the concepts. Also, a great person.

Best professor I've had - insanely smart, helpful, and entertaining. The lectures go into a perfect amount of detail - only going into proofs when necessary, and giving great intuition on concepts. Homeworks were very fun and a good challenge, and exams were fair. He had plenty of ways to get help from him outside of class & he was very helpful.

Rycroft is very enthusiastic about math. While he tends to teach out of the textbook, he does it well and gives motivation for everything. Exams can be challenging but he gives out a lot of partial credit. The final project was fun, and he even gives less homework to let students focus on it. Homework can get very tedious.

Chris Rycroft gives concise lectures that are easy to follow, but the problem sets and exams are difficult. Rycroft is a godsend on Piazza and in office hours. Rycroft makes the analysis fun. More professors should be like Rycroft. Moral of the story: Rycroft.

Rycroft is the GOAT. He may not be a pure mathematician but he knows his stuff. A lot of our homework used results proved in class so the proofs on the homework weren't hard. My only complaint is that the final was worth 45% of our grade meaning you could do good all semester but get sick the last day and get a B in the class because of that.
