GOATed professor. Most caring professor I've had, really smart and dumbs it down to a level that is understandable. The class is hard and a lot of work, but Chin makes it a lot of fun. Only thing is that his exams are HARD. Doesn't curve but gives us points back for re-doing problems in discussion. Gives dad energy, but in the best way possible
Chin takes some getting used to but I ended up loving his class and mode of teaching. He really emphasizes knowing the principles rather than getting the right answer. His exams are tough but he gives a lot of chances to get points back, so don't worry if you drop a 60 unweighted.
Chin is awesome. He makes lectures interesting, and he really wants you to understand the concepts. The tests are tough, but he offers ample opportunity to get points back as well as extra credit. If you show up and participate with him, you should get the grade you are aiming for. One of my favorite profs so far.
Chin has pretty active lectures and he puts lots of work into his slides. He has a fun personality but also does have some light hearted sarcasm. The class is still tough and he puts emphasis on 50% conceptual and 50% calculation based exams. Quizzes are mostly homework based and Chin does want people to read the textbook.
Chin is a very social professor whose lectures are greatly improved by participation and questions. Fieldtrips were a great experience! The homework was very difficult, confusing and time consuming, but that's to be expected from a high level class like this.
Didn't learn what I was expecting. Sometimes difficult to understand lectures and exams don't reflect what was taught.
The overall set up for the class was irritating so I am glad it is going to change. In general Chin was alright, but the way that material was presented on the slides and other resources was not good and it made it really hard to understand things that you miss. Exams are pretty much an edit of the practice exams he posts.
Chin's charming personality fades quickly into a slightly misogynistic desperation for chuckles during lecture. His disinterest was apparent in the lack of effort to provide a clear and focused lesson. His lecture slides look like bad collage art. Both the homework and the exams are unreasonable given the content he provides (no textbook).
Chin is a very good professor. He learns every kid's name and calls on you randomly during class. He usually has very good TA's. You learn mostly from the TA's. Lectures are organized.
Wu made made semi-boring class material very entertaining. Homework assignments took a lot of effort but really helped you learn the material. As long as you can follow along in the lecture and lab, the exams are very doable.
He memorizes everybody' names at the beginning of the semester which makes it hard to skip class without him knowing, this also means that he calls on you randomly in class. There's no point in going to lecture because the info he gives is simply read off of power point slides that he posts online. The hw takes 10+ hours and is graded for accuracy.
Professor is awesome but his class is very difficult. The information is very dense and you'll definitely need to be on top of your stuff. He is a very kind and funny professor he makes sure to know your name after a week. Great professor but tough class.
The class required a lot of time working on long weekly homework assignments. Overall very nice guy who wants you to do well in the course, so if you show up to class and participate you will generally do well in the class.
Professor Wu took initiative to meet his students post exam and discuss the material to ensure that students understood what they missed the first time. I found this extremely helpful; I didn't perform so well in his CEE310 class, however, I did much better in Coastal Engineering.
Be prepared to put in an absurd amount of time for the homework in this class. Exams don't relate to homework in the sense that it's just 2 hours of mad number crunching calculations. His slides are impossible to learn from so pay attention in lab. Go to the TA's office hours, not his because he won't help you anyway.
I could not stand this professor, his lectures while funny did not aid in learning much at all. Exams usually averaged around a 67.
Wu has the class complete homework from the text. He knows the answers are available. The lec. slides are sloppy. The lab slides are great. Use your TAs for help. Wu is often busy and hard to meet with. The exam is not like the HW so go to study sessions. UW has few tutors avail. for 310 so find good study groups.
The subject material is tough, Prof. Wu really tries to help everyone learn it. He is always available to explain things out of class and work with your learning style. Good life advisor too!
Uses a lot of class participation, and makes lectures entertaining
I took 291 with him and he was alright. the class isnt too interesting but he's a good guy. You just have to put in the work and the exams are pretty much straight forward. His practice exams are also representative of what's going to be on the actual exams. He's easy to approach!
Wu is an excellent motivator and does well to entertain the class making lectures less boring. However, his exams are very tricky and in depth both conceptually and in calculations. Personally, I'd rather have a boring prof with easier exams.
Wu is a hilarious teacher but makes you work very hard.
One of the best and funniest teachers in engineering! Fluids is a hard class no matter what, but Wu keeps class interesting and relateable. The textbook was essentially worthless, but necessary for homework. The first exam is the hardest, but as long as your grade improves, you'll do fine.
