We only had two essay exams. People did better than me in the class. Pay attention to quotes and page numbers. Grades evenly on your argument and understanding of the concepts. Super easy to talk to. Takes your concern for your grade seriously. If required but worried about your grade, just chat post-lec or office hours, he wants you to succeed.

I took HIS518 with Dr. Goldberg and while it was the most reading I have ever had to do (60+ pages per class) it was a fascinating course. His lectures are incredible and summarize the readings incredibly well. He also really listens to your contributions and builds off of them. If you are interested in the subject of his courses, I would recommend

Despite this course having a ton of heavy reading, Prof Goldberg made every lecture engaging and clear. Grading was based on attendance, pass/fail reading reflections, and 2 take-home exams that were very clear if you went to lectures and did the readings. Take this class with him if you get the chance!

This is my second class with Professor Goldberg and I would recommend taking whatever you can with him. The class was small so it was important to be prepared in order to contribute but the actual graded work was only two papers that were fairly graded.

So many readings, which got confusing and difficult to follow at times, but prof Goldberg does a great job of explaining the readings. He takes attendance every class and it is a part of the final grade so be aware. Overall he is a great lecturer and seems to really care. However, I probably wouldn't recommend taking soc475 unless you have to.

It's a comm b class so be prepared to do LOTS of writing. Goldberg is very rude to students who interrupt lecture and are late. If you're going to be late to class, just skip. If you have a good TA the class is pretty easy, if not it can be very difficult. Pretty average overall.

Chad was one of the best professors I have had. His lectures were clear and interesting. He is pretty funny too. Class consists of lectures that go over readings, online quizzes, and two take home exams. Read and participate in class and you should do well. The exams are lengthy but manageable!

I thought Chad did a great job in presenting the material in an interesting way. While there were a few bummer lectures, most of them were awesome! It is a Com B so there quite a bit of writing, but it isn't really all that time consuming. If you get Frank as your TA you're set. He was awesome and always made his expectations very clear!

I really enjoyed having Chad this semester! He is extremely knowledgeable about the topic and presented it in a very well organized manner. His lectures include summaries at the end (also uploaded online) and he offers students time at the end of class to ask questions. Just make sure youre on time to class or he will call you out!

The class was not bad, but a Com B so lots of writing. Chad was not a terrible professor, but he was rude to students who entered anytime after the bell or even when people had a coughing fit in class. However, if you have a good especially TA you will easily pass. Find a friend in the class... Lecture is not required but slides are not online!

Professor Goldberg clearly did not have much interest in what he was teaching, and somehow made very interesting topics extremely boring. Despite all of this, I only showed up to half of the classes, didn't do a single reading all semester, and easily got A's on both exams.

This class takes a topic I was previously nterested in and made it incredibly boring. The readings we do are all old, and although they are important works in the foundation of Sociology they all seem to repeat the same ideas over and over and could be covered in a 2 sentence summary instead of a 30 page paper. The lectures just repeat the readings

I was sadly disappointed by Professor Goldberg. With the rave reviews he got on this site, I was expecting a gem. While he isn't horrible, his lectures are dry and hard to follow. SOC210 is ultimately confusing, but easy I wouldn't take it again, but it was an easy 4 intermediate credits. Readings are not essential for success on the exams.

Class was very hard but very interesting! Lots of writing, but with a good TA it's doable

Literally for every lecture he just reads off the slides--boring af. If you can get notes from a friend DO IT. Final and midterm are super easy. Take this class if you are looking for an easy A for your comm B requirement. Yeah there are about 30 pages of reading after every lecture, but you'll have that for any comm B.

Goldberg's class is carefully designed and the readings are very eye-opening about American democracy. Definitely relevant to the modern politics and society. He's a great guy, thoughtful teacher.

Clear-cut professor who genuinely cares for his students. Chad does a great job at challenging the students to look beyond the surface of the text as well as encouraging them to excel in the class. Looking back, I would have not changed my mind on taking this class with him. Chad is one of the most brilliant professors in the sociology department.

Chad is an awesome professor and I am thinking about taking another class with him. Though the text is hard to understand, he clarifies the ideas very clearly. He is very helpful if you go to his office hour. There are three exams and one term paper, non cumulative. iF you do all the readings and go to every lecture, you will do great on them.

Goldberg is truly one of the best sociology professors you can find on campus. His lectures are very clear-cut and he always has something new to present/say during lecture. While participation is a nice chunk of your grade, get ready to talk and ask questions to understand the course material. Chad is a great professor and I have no regrets.

Great professor for an introductory sociology class. Expect a lot of papers (4 shorts papers, 3 pgs each; 1 research paper, 8-10 pgs). The exams (midterm+final) are fair and non-cumulative. He is always willing to explain concepts after lecture and during office hours. Just don't talk in class as he will embarrass you in front of the class lecture.

Professor Goldberg's lectures were great. He's a wonderful speaker and he prepares clear PowerPoints for each lecture. This course is a very broad introduction to sociology and touches on many different topics. Most of the readings are pretty interesting.

This class is a solid comm b choice. You're gonna write a lot, but that's comm B. There's a TON of reading, but you only need the basic ideas. Chad clearly knows his stuff, I found the lectures pretty boring though. There's two midterms and no final, but they're only 20 questions so each question matters. Having a great TA helps a lot

As a Comm B course, a lot of reading and writing were assigned in this course. The writing assignments (30 pages including drafts) were graded by TAs, though. The lectures were pretty clear and engaging. Tests were very fair, basically from the review sheet. I decided to take this course for the new MCAT only, but ended up really into it!

I had Goldberg for SOC 210. While it was a general overview, he did an excellent job in presenting the different topics through arguments & counterarguments. Midterm and final are fair; just don't miss either since there is an optional cumulative final . Also don't talk in lecture because he will call you out and test you on the class material.

Only one short midterm and one short final, both MC, and are stupid easy. Most of your grade is from four 2-3 page reading response papers and an 8-10 page research paper that you work on throughout the semester. TAs are tough graders for the writing imo, but you don't really have to read the textbook if you go to lecture and take good notes.

Awesome professor who really cares about his students. You can tell he really cares about the class/is really passionate about the material

Basic Comm B class, Goldberg gives very straightforward lectures, not too much work but weekly reading and occasional 550-700 word papers in discussion.

He's a good lecturer; super clear and sticks to his slides so you're never left in the dark. Tests are short and easy because most of your grade is off of papers, which you have to write approximately 1week (3 pages usually). Great professor and always willing to help! Would recommend.

Presents information extremely clearly. Midterms ridiculously easy. Powernotes provide all answers. Gorgeous man

Prof Goldberg is great. Lectures weren't super interesting but content was clear and pretty easy. Tests required minimal studying if you've been paying any attention. Would recommend!

Professor Goldberg is a great guy. He is extremely helpful and will always meet with you when you need. His lectures are fairly standard and are mostly reproductions of the readings, so it can get a little boring. I would recommend taking a class with him.

class was super boring but the final exam was easy and you can do well if you read all the articles and do well on the research paper

As long as you get the notes you don't need to go to lecture. Discussion is mandatory and you don't need to do any of the reading. Easy A if you're competent at reading.

Really boring discussion. I got the notes off studyblue.com and never went to class. Only one test-final exam. One 10 page research paper on any topic. 3 homework reading reflection assignments. A few other small writing assignments for discussion. Discussion is mandatory. It's more interesting than lecture.

I;m not sure what everyone else is talking about but I find him to be a pretty awful lecturer. He pretty much just talks AT you...basically reading word for word his notes, barely looking up, and saying "um" every five words. Its incredibly frustrating. All in all the class may be easy but these lectures are terrible

A really nice guy, and the topics were generally interesting. My honest opinion is find a friend who took the class before and don't bother going to class, because the notes are the same from the year before. Don't buy the books, you'll only really be accountable for what you learn in lecture.

really easy class, especially if you've taken other soc classes. most reading isn't necessary except for writing the papers. final was a joke. prof is absolutely great! obvious that he cares about giving a good lecture and wants to engage the class. even if you don't like sociology, you'll definitely learn something! take this class!!

very genuinely nice professor. he really cares about what he teaches and wants students to feel the same way. great class!

Lectures seem very intimidating and full of information but the final was much easier then I anticipated. He emailed us the summaries from each class that he had on powerpoint to use for study guides. Buying the smaller book is not necessary (i never opened mine). I heard most of the TAs are pretty strict on grading for the papers.

Awesome prof!

lots of reading, but worth all the time spent. Prof goldberg loves teaching this class and you can def tell. Class is very interesting and you learn a whole lot. Only 5 pop quizes and two papers! Take this class if you can!

Assigns a lot of reading, but much of it you don't need to do. Interesting class, pretty easy final (only exam we had b/c it was Com-B), and I'd definitely recommend taking him.

Course well organized and interesting.

Great format for lectures and exams.

I learned a ton in this class. His lectures are clear and organized. Definitely take him!!

[BEGINNING OF FALL 2004 SEMESTER] : nice looking ; lots of reading but mostly intriguing for a soc student ; many books to buy.
