Pretty average professor/course. Dr. Marler cares for students and answers all questions before moving on. Three exams determine 75% of your grade, so be sure to study and watch the review session, as it can be helpful. Lectures contain a lot of examples, which can make things more boring/complicated, but most of the material is pretty interesting.

The reviews for the exams have little to do with what is actually on the exams. Despite the constant studying, (reading the textbook, taking notes on every lecture, and doing the review) I still did not do well. The exams were difficult. She is passionate about her work, but the exams could be graded differently.

Compared to the other lecturer during this course, Marler falls short. Her lectures are long, dense, and very boring. Exams are very specific, there were questions on statistical data on one slide on a graph that you might have glanced over once. Class was interesting Marler was not. Her lecture outlines were not outlines and made it more confusing

Cathy is definitely very knowledgable on the subject material and seems like a nice person. However, her lectures tend to be quite boring and dense. The main reason I gave her 2 stars is that her exams cover the smallest details and were not very fair. I do not recommend this class if you are not a neurobio major, it should not be listed as psych.

Professor Marler's lectures were really interesting and she gives great examples for each concept. She also tried her best to break up the class so your grade didn't depend solely on the exams. The exams were specific and difficult though. You NEED to go to lecture to do well on exams!!!! Super interesting topics!!!

Marler's lectures are mostly examples. She expects her students to already understand a concept before it has been taught sometimes but the content is not too difficult. I found the class very interesting but only if you already know you like behavior. I found Marler friendly but patronizing. Her expectations are often unclear too.

Professor Marler really put in effort to show she cared about her students by regularly reminding us we could email her if we ever needed anything which was super nice during virtual learning. I also took the class to fulfill a requirement and ended up finding the content super interesting!

Took psych 449 for honors credit and would recommend for an easy A as long as you put in some effort. Genuinely confused by her poor ratings claiming a lack of communication- accidentally clicked her zoom link once and she immediately emailed me to see if everything was ok or if I needed someone to talk to. Lectures are super interesting!

On a Big 5 Personality Test, Professor Marler would probably score low on Openness. She is not very accessible outside class, and a student might get the impression that she's avoidant to teach. One pro of Marler is her decently substantial knowledge and experience in the field, giving her an edge in terms of her knowledge bank.

Professor Marler's lectures are boring and difficult to pay attention to. She never answered any of the emails I sent her. Her exam questions are also incredibly specific and it's difficult to do better than average on them. The syllabus said there was supposed to be a curve determined at the end of the semester but she decided not to do that.

Professor Marler is so nice and her lectures are super interesting. I learned a lot in this class about evolutionary psychology, biology and ecology. I would definitely take a class with her again.

This class is not worth taking, no matter what major or interest you have. The content is so irrelevant and useless, and to top it off her exams are almost impossible to do better than average on. She asks incredibly specific questions even though she provides no practice tests or study guides, even the review sessions are pointless.

I took the honors section, and all we did was sit in discussion for an hour and listen to her talk about presentations we did for class. Even though we only did about two presentations in a class of about 11, it took the ENTIRE SEMESTER to finish them (after every one she spent a 1/2 hr talking). She complained are lecture grades aren't great too.

I wouldn't recommend this to someone even if they were interested in Animal Behavior. Her lectures are extremely boring and her exams are unnecessarily difficult. She wasn't readily available to be seen outside class and she changed the curve in the class to be harder without telling us. Her emails were unprofessional and she was not accommodating.

You do not need to even go to lectures since she puts the powerpoint slides up a week before each exam. Some of the test questions left so many people confused because they did not even know what she was asking for, even though the material itself was not too complicated. Most of the material learned in this class is taught in other classes.

Dr. Marler is an incredibly nice lady but her lectures are pretty boring. That being said, you don't need to read the textbook at all to do well on her exams and they are curved. The best thing about her is she is VERY open to answering your questions. She is very experienced in Animal Behavior and knows so much!
