Exams are tricky; one incorrect word makes it wrong. Extra credit is impossible. Do not take this course.

DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE if you don't need it. I will never take another evolution course again because of her. She's not accessible outside of class, she relies on students to help each other out (tutor/tutees) using this system as a cop out to help students who are struggling. She is condescending and belittling. Exams are unnecessarily tricky.

She is all over the place when she lectures and has about 90 slides per lecture. It was unclear on what we were tested on and some questions were mainly to trick us. You really dont need the book at all, I rented it but opened it twice. Overall learned some fun facts but was HELLA confused most of the time.

She wouldn't take responsibility for problems that were her fault, and she blamed it on technology. She is extremely ableist, joking on multiple occasions that "without autism, we wouldn't have any math geniuses". She is condescending and belittling to students, and when a student offers a correction or different opinion, she dismisses it.

Worst prof I've ever had. Prof Lee does not make directions/lecture material clear, cannot work technology (which is great for online class), repeats slides several times throughout lecture. Did 100% quizzes only to get below average on exams as exam questions were tricky and multiple choices could've been correct. DO NOT TAKE CLASS W HER!

I hate to be this person but this was honestly the worst class I have taken in my 3 years at UW. Prof. Lee was grossly disorganized and lectures were hard to follow. 20 minutes before our first exam Prof. Lee emailed us saying she was unable to upload the exam and it will be rescheduled to later in the week. Can't do that during midterms.

She is one of the worst professors I have had. She talks in circles, asks questions and doesn't answer them, allows talkative kids take over the class, is not accommodating to anyone (even with the death of a parent), she is rude, and I would never take this a class with her again. Oh and she doesn't know how to work technology well so online sucks

Very lecture heavy. Wouldn't recommend going but can be helpful sometimes. Often goes overtime because she gets distracted by student questions. Very, very unprofessional: 1. Pushed a test back two days when the exam was supposed to start in 30 min. 2. Wouldn't allow extra time on assignments for my friend when her family member suddenly passed.

Dr. Lee's powerpoints are unnecessarily repetitive and confusing. She will frequently have two slides right next to each other say the same exact thing. Her tests have a lot of questions that ask 'which of these is the most correct', confusing wording, and a few questions that required memorization of specific details or info not in slides.

Lee was one of my all time favorite professors! If you only go to lecture and really pay attention, you will pass. I didn't do any of the readings after the first 2 weeks of class, and I still did just fine. The tests are all about concepts and patterns, so make sure to go to discussion if anything because the handouts are really helpful.

The only time you'll need the textbook is for 2 HW assignments. It's definitely possible to get an A without doing the "required" textbook/literature reading. Exam questions test the ability to understand concepts, rather than straight up memorization. She gets on tangents easily, but everything you need to know is emphasized on the lecture slides.

Lee is a pretty good professor, who knows the material well. She lectures incredibly fast, so you have to take notes about what she's saying, not what's on her slides. She's funny at times, and likes to ask the lecture questions in person, not via clicker. She says her test won't try to trick you and it doesn't.

Carol is down to business, but a good professor. She is clearly very smart, and her curtness can be funny. Tests are slightly challenging, but fair. The evolution was not what I expected, it was not very interesting, but she is straightforward and teaches the material well.

Of the three professors for the course, she was definitely my favorite. All the information we needed to know was presented clearly, which is something I can't say for the other lecturers. You will definitely LEARN during her lectures. Her test questions are badly worded though, so watch out for that

Dr. Lee goes through her lecture slides very quickly, but she is crystal clear on what she expects her students to know. She emphasizes key points and essentially everything you need to know is on her slides. Her lecture slides and sample questions are a nice way to study. However, the exam did have a few tricky questions.

Shes is an annoying person. Her lectures are disorganized and hard to follow. Her exam had so many trick questions.

I like her and I understand her lectures, I'm more used to her style of lecturing and explaining things. But her test is really a sad story to me, though she's so hot.

Confusing lectures. she skips around a lot and goes on unrelated side tangents. very tricky exam questions.

Highly recommended. Professor Lee's lectures are very engaging. Her academic interests are varied (evolution, ecology, anthropology, genetics) and this often adds richness to the subject material. Definitely look into her research area (rapid evolution). If you know how to take good lecture notes and how to study well, then you will do just fine.

Pretty cool lectures and wicked smart.

She is very smart and tries her best to explain the concepts but isn't the best at it. The test questions are very tricky so you will need to COMPLETELY understand the class material in order to do well on the tests.

She is energetic and wants students to succeed, but her class is not curved at all, making it difficult to get an A. She goes on many side rants, which although interesting, do not coincide with the tested material. Her hw is not very helpful. Most of the test questions come from the slides. The e.c. is minimal. Bio & genetics background helpful.

Carol is a very energetic person but she is not a very good professor. She doesnt make her expectations clear and does an awful job explaining things. She obviously tries very hard but just doesnt understand that learning is more about studying. She is also a horrible test writer as her questions dont have clear answers. I would not take her again.

Dr. Lee makes lectures extremely interesting and worth attending, even though attendance isn't technically required. She posts her powerpoints online before class (extremely helpful) and really WANTS her students to succeed, which she emphasizes. She reviewed key concepts over and over until they were difficult to forget. Overall, great professor.

Carol is a very clear, interesting lecturer - I did not have a strong genetics background for this class and did well (but be sure to review basic bio). She reads from her slides (which are crammed with words). Exams logical and require learning concepts and applying them to exam questions. Extra credit opportunities & optional discussion.

Lectures/textbook unnecessary. Power points contain all information needed for exams. ***Exams are well-written for a logical mind, but merely memorizing the material will NOT suffice***. Extra credit opportunities are tutoring other students, leading discussions, and extra questions on 2nd and 3rd exams.

I liked Dr Lee a lot! I come from a bio/genetics background so perhaps things were a bit clearer to me than other commenters have noted. She is very interested in her field and she tries to get us to think like scientists which I like. Exams are rather tricky if you don't REALLY understand the concepts. A basic understanding isn't enough.

Class doesn't require chem or genetics background, but it should. Very genetics-based. Boring lecturer, more than half the class stopped coming. Terrible test writer, the questions are overly complicated, and she emphasizes different things in lecture than what she tests on. Take with a different prof if possible.

She is a great teacher who is very passionate on what she teaches. She made everything very easy to understand, and I felt as though I understood everything right after lecture without even studying it. However, her exams are kind of difficult. There are a lot of "which of the following is NOT" which means you have to know 4 that are.

The biology department at whole seems kind of out of touch, but she explains things clearly and eloquently and just seems more put together overall.

One of my favorite lecturers at UW. She made class interesting and enjoyable.

I have to disagree- I think she is one of the best test writers I've ever had! If you attend lecture that's all you need to do to ace the exams- the questions are about understanding the material not memorizing useless terms from the lecture slides. She occasionally goes off on tangents but otherwise a very good lecturer.

Dr. Lee is an amazing Lecturer. She has a ton of experience in evolution and will keep you interested in what she's talking about. She doesnt require much reading or memorization. Going to lecture is necessary, but it is enjoyable. However, her exam was extremely difficult, a lot of tricky wording and similar choices. Good lecturer, bad exam writer
