I don't know what the other reviews are talking about, I've never had a professor ask for as much feedback as Chenxi. He also had a very lenient grading system and he is very sharp and can easily answer any question or come up with an example if you have a question. He is great at communicating and grades everything himself very quickly.
I took this class Fall semester of the 2022-23 school year. The lectures were hard to follow and lacked a clear idea of the goal from the beginning. If you end up having Chenxi Wu I would highly recommend that you look in the Course Schedule and watch a Youtube video about the topic beforehand to better understand what he is trying to teach.
The class is pretty confusing already but he made it even more confusing
Very kind professor, but the lectures were useless. Stopped going after 2 weeks and did well on all exams except for the final. The lecture notes are easier to understand if you dont go to lecture and read them yourself. Use them as a guide.
Throughout the whole semester, I never learned any of the material that we were doing through him. Almost everything in the class I taught myself through videos online. Chenxi just goes too much into proofs, simplifying a lot of things and making it overall confusing. After every lecture, it just felt like I was more stressed than anything.
Avoid at all costs, impossible to understand and he teaches everything in the most complicated ways possible. If I hadn't already taken this course in high school I would be completely lost. Don't even bother going to his lectures you will leave more confused than when you got there. By the end of the semester the lectures were 20% full
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I have already taken this course in HS (Calc BC), but thought I would retake to get a solid foundation for my math major. If I hadn't already taken this course, I would be completely lost!! Makes lectures so confusing by not explaining topics well, and is terrible at answering questions. Take with Brian Lawrence if able to!!
Worst teacher experience made an effort to go to lecture but had to stop due to his poor teaching style. I recently went and the lecture room was just a fraction of what it was at the start of the semester. If you take him get ready to teach yourself everything because you will not learn anything from him. Waste of tuition money, seriously.
He tries and obviously cares about how well his students do. Unfortunately, he is godawful at teaching. He writes in super weird notation so even if you've done the material before you wouldn't understand it. I stopped going to his lectures because I got literally nothing out of them. Luckily the textbook was good at explaining things.
I was struggling so much in this class because it is very difficult to understand and after the final exam I had a C. I asked the professor what I could do to get some extra points. He sent me his address and said if I make him happy, he'll make me happy. How disgusting!
The professor is very caring and wants to help students succeed, but his way of teaching is not the best way to learn. He teaches through the general formula instead of examples and uses weird notation. Despite having already learned calc 2 in HS, I still was lost in lecture. Grading policies/tests are consistent with all teachers that teach 222.
If you want to fail Math 222, go ahead and take this class with this professor.
He is extremely smart, but cannot describe basic calculus concepts if it killed him.
Don't take him if you don't have to, my professor got switched and even though I tried to make the best of it he is incredibly confusing 99% of the time and I left every lecture more confused than I thought possible. His work is incredibly hard to follow as well.
Professor Wu is obviously an incredibly smart guy who is very passionate about math. With that being said, I went to one lecture and switched professors mid lecture because we were doing IBP (one of the easiest topics in calc 2) and he was all over the place. I left confused even though I took it in high school. AVOID!
Can be a little confusing at times but I thought he was very helpful. Homework was relevant and useful. He probably gets a bad rep because he has an accent but his homeworks and exams were straight forward. Show up and study his lectures and the class should be easy
Looks like he tries, but the reality is that he's super confusing and does not have a sense for how difficult the material or the homework/exam is. Sometimes his answers to student questions may come off as rude or pedantic. Overall, one of the worst math professors I've ever had. Stay away if you can!
The good: he usually answers all questions, and usually fast. He asks for feedback. The bad: He is extremely inexperienced + has a gift to teach as confusing as possible. The ugly: he makes typos / numerical errors all the time. Sometimes serious/conceptual mistakes too. He refuses to clarify things if he thinks it is already clear enough.
I tried to understand his lecture, but I can't. My homework grade was about 96 (40%). My two exam grades were not high, 71 average. I got BC 0.3% lower than B. I spent a lot of time on homework and textbook. However, one-third of students got 80+. He did not use Honorlock. Maybe everyone is math expert.
Man if i'd known what I was signing up for in the second half, id have dropped instantly. 95% of the effort I put in was wasted. His lectures were confusing and textbook was the only resort. 95% of the hw didn't matter at al in final
Difficult to understand what is going on, but he puts in a lot of effort to answering student questions and is always looking for feedback.
Please avoid him if you can. Literally impossible to understand his lecture. Makes every content super confusing. Hard exam with nothing related to hw or notes. The worst professor I've ever had. You gotta teach yourself.
