-Unclear grading criteria, when you're confused, she will talk down to you instead of helping -Hard to reach outside of class -Extremely harsh grader -Doesn't use Canvas, so you don't know your grade -I'm a senior, and I've never experienced a professor like this. You could not pay me to take this class again
Class itself was very easy, but the professor was incredibly biased which made the lectures frustrating. She was kind of stand-offish as well and seemed to have favorites, and she would straight up ignore certain students. Also hid the grades until the very end of semester so I had no idea how I was doing. Online exams.
The topic of the class was interesting, but the way it was organized was honestly terrible. You get graded on very few things and you have no way of seeing your grade until the end of the semester. You have to read one chapter book a week, which is way too high of a work load for a 3 credit class. Overall, it was interesting, but way too much work.
This class was super interesting and easy! You don't really have to show up to lecture really as long as you're doing the readings. The readings were pretty easy and interesting children's books (there are 8 of them) There's a take-home midterm and final, two 500-750 writing assignments, one group research project, and a couple discussion posts.
Professor Fielder is great! She is very passionate about her topic of study. She is also caring and understanding. I would definitely recommend this course as it was very compelling. (P.S. There is quite a bit of reading and the 3 required books must be purchased).
Fielder was harsh. Lectures and discussion are mandatory, 6 page midterm and final exams, several other papers and projects. Would not recommend.
She seems intense and demanding at first, but really if you do the reading and pay attention in lecture it's fine. Participation helps because she'll get to know you and she cares about people.
Show up to lecture, do reading, and you'll be fine. Final/midterm are take home. Interesting perspective on American Girl - really cares about history and how they compare to historical writing on girls. Easy but interesting homework involves linking class reading to current events. Most reading is children's lit so not too hard. Would take again.
I usually like literature classes, but Fielder's teaching style did not mesh with my learning style. I had a really tough time understanding her expectations, and she was hard to get help from, even when going to her office hours. I was happy to improve my essay scores over the course of the semester, but not by much.
This class required reading well over ten books in the course of a semester, but I never felt overwhelmed as most of them were children's booksshort stories. The essays are not particularly difficult, and Prof. Fielder's lectures were interesting and engaging. Class participation is encouraged and attendance is mandatory. Take-home midtermfinal.
