Materials class with Dr. Blackwell was the most fun class I took in all of my CBE curriculum. You can definitely tell he is passionate about materials and it shows in his lectures. One of the best thing about him is that he makes it very clear what he wants, which makes studying much more easy.

Fermentation with Dr. Blackwell was the highlight of my undergraduate engineering career. He single-handedly started this class and did all the paperwork so we can brew beer in lab. He even took us on a field trip to an actual beer factory! Amazing professor! Truly a must have if you get the chance.

324 overall is a time consuming class and the course layout is set by the department, so I'm not gonna comment on those issues. Additionally, the class is way more TA dependent than professor dependent. Blackwell did not have a particularly large role in the class, but he was fair, helpful, and to the point whenever I did interact with him.

I have had this professor for both 255 and 324 now. As a 324 professor, I wouldn't have wanted anyone else. He was fair, kind, and incredibly helpful. As a 255 professor, he can be a bit harsh, especially do those who lack coding skills. However, he is always willing to help and is very enthusiastic about what he teaches in both classes.

Professor Blackwell is one of the most approachable instructors in the department. In other words, he does not play god with his students. He has been a fantastic resource for 324 lab reports this semester. I would not have survived the course without him.

Blackwell is one of the best instructors at the chemE department in UW-Madison. If you get a chance to take any classes with him, do it. You will not regret it.

Professor Blackwell is professional, enthusiastic, and seemed genuinely interested in the subject matter he teaches. Unlike some aloof tenure-tracked professor who would rather be on at a academic conference than in the classroom, he focuses his entire entire energy on disseminating his endless wisdom on transport phenomena and life in general.

Overall, great choice for 324. Speaks very fast, but is always willing to answer questions/give feedback on lab reports. BCB is a great resource if you use him.

Professor Blackwell is one of the best professor you can possibly get for CBE255. He is funny, responsive, caring, and offers good advice both on course content knowledge and academic life in general. Go to his office hours and you will be just fine for CBE255.

Professor Blackwell has very good pre-recorded lectures so you can learn the material asynchronously. He is also very accessible out side of the classroom. The key to success in this class is his office hours, where he will go through a problem with you in extreme detail and help you debug your code. He also replies to email very frequent.

Best professor for CBE 324. Very caring and helpful. You can easily get an A if you spent even minimal amount of effort.

Fair, logical, and kind professor. Speaks a bit fast. This class is pretty self taught. Lectures are mostly example problems. HW can be hard, bring it up in OH or discussion. The 2 projects were a pain, (believe them when they say to start early). Weekly quiz with ten minute timer is stressful. Final exam was very fair.

Dr. Blackwell is incredibly knowledgeable and fun to work with and have as a professor. However, he has a tendency to expect students to do calculus when they haven't learned algebra. Many quizzes and assignments require students to go above and beyond what they are capable of, and the structure of his course makes many dread it.
