Super easy class for a non-sciency person if you just need the credit. Lectures are long and boring but the assignments are easy to get full credit on. The whole class is organized around your group
Pace of lectures felt slow and some information overemphasized or redundant. Frequently would focus on topics that could have been summed up in a slide or two. Top hat used. There are McGraw Hill textbook assignments- I just did the questions without reading cuz the content was reiterated in lecture. Group work isn't terrible and is the final.
Singer is a great prof. He isn't the greatest with technology, but just a guy who loves to talk about his interests. He will laugh at his own science jokes that no one else understands, and the best part is there is no final exam. Take a class with Brad Singer you won't regret it.
Singer is an awesome professor. My favorite thing about the class was there was no final exam and he stopped class attendance 2 weeks before the semester. GO SINGER KEEP IT UP
Mandatory attendance checked via TopHat and points docked from group project for each member if only one person did not show up.
Boring lectures. Attendance is taken through TopHat. The group project was the final. Lots of little quizzes and exercises throughout the semester and we had readings and assignments through McGraw Hill Connect (not super fun, lengthy, and BORING). But, it was an easy science course for someone who does not want a lab or exams, it's all online.
Yes, Prof. Singer has boring, mumbled lectures, but he's a nice guy who's really knowledgeable about geology. Course is organized well but confusing at times since lecture content often didn't match up with assignments. BEST course for a science credit for the non-sciencey person!
People are knocking on him a bit much just because lectures are boring. Class is super organized and everything is on canvas.
Frequently went over time and just went through the motions of talking through a pre-made slide deck made years ago. Not very receptive to questions, and forces the use of outdated technologies for homework assignments. Trying to figure out how to submit the homework was more difficult than the homework itself.
Dr. Singer's geochronology class was the hardest class I took in undergrad. It was interesting, and I came out of it with a solid understanding of one of the most complex parts of geology. The class was graded off only 3 assignments.
Lectures were extremely slow and not useful at all. It was hard to pay attention in class due to the professors monotonous and disinterested tone. Homework was tedious. The grading scale is ridiculous; a 96.6 was the minimum for an A. Although it was an easy class you could BS your way through, Id never take it again.
My 96 got curved to an AB. Professor is a slow and monotone talker who wears khakis and hiking boots to class every day. Ridiculous class: the facts stand for themselves.
For taking this class for an elective type credit I really enjoyed it. The content was very engaging and you could tell that he really knew what he was talking about. The lectures are important because they give you insight what's going to be on the quiz. Lots of different types of grades which made the class accommodating.
Brad is nice enough, but isn't the best at articulating his points. The class is easy enough to pass by just doing the online work, though sitting through the lectures are rough. He tends to mumble, go over his time limit, and reiterate the same points repeatedly throughout the lecture.
I would recommend GEO 140 for anyone who needs a Physical Science course for their gen eds. It's significantly easier than chem. Prof Singer was really nice the one time I came to his office hours, and more importantly, I got an A+ in science while learning minimal! eTextbook access is included in Canvas. I found his voice relaxing.
Teaches you a lot of material, however the main "objectives" of the class are not covered on the Mid-term. It will take him at least 15 minutes to answer your question and by then your confused about what led up to that point. I had to interrupt him to move on to the next question, or else we would still probably be talking about it.
Extremely boring, droning voice. Exams are absurd, he made one of our midterms have about 75% of questions from one of his most boring lectures and it was about the least-covered material in the entire course. The professor he teaches with isn't bad but this guy makes attending class horrible. I fell asleep every class except for one.
Singer is a terrible prof. He is boring and monotonous and his tests are way to difficult for a 100 level class. On the 2nd and final exams there were questions covering material we never talked about. I went to every lecture the whole semester and I got a BC in the class. Do not take this class with Singer.
Never take Geo 100 with him if at all possible. His lectures are boring and his mumbling is almost unbearable. His midterms ask the most minute questions.
Never take this course with this professor! He's monotonous and boring and his tests have stupid questions that he rarely covers. Also he drones on with stories that no one cares about. The science level is really easy, but unless you have a dying inspiration to learn about rocks, don't take this class!!!!!!!
Boring lecture, especially since the chairs are comfty. Easy class though, really repetitive. But if you read occassionally, the tests will be easy. Take this class if you're not into science, but need the credit.
Interesting class. Work hard, read the material, do the labs, and the curve at the end will help out. The class is a little slow at times. would recommend
When you ask him to explain something, he'll do it, but then go out on some tangent "to make it more interesting", which it's not. Slides are really detailed so you could skip lecture if you wanted to. Discussion mandatory b/c its a lab. Has a really monotonous voice.
