Lecture notes in general were unorganized and very messy. I think he is a nice prof who tries his best, but you will end up learning more on youtube for the class. Had 3 exams worth 86% of grade total. Rest was discussion quizzes and homework that were all fairly easy and had 2/3 drops. Look for someone different.

Wang's lectures for 222 are awful. His notes are unorganized and messy. His explanations are confusing and unhelpful. He can't help it, but his accent and stuttering makes a bad explanation worse. He doesn't explain what we're learning & writes on the notes app, which results in missed notes as soon as he scrolls down. Switch lectures if you can.

Botong is really fun. I'd definitely recommend going to lectures. He's a good lecturer. He has a bit of an accent, but I almost never had trouble understanding him. He can be fun sometimes too. Like he used being a sniper as an analogy when talking about polar coordinates, which I still remember. Overall I found 234 enjoyable and not too hard.

Course and lectures are extremely disorganized. Professor himself is always extremely unclear and confused as to what he is teaching. He always makes mistakes in his lecture notes and has to correct himself halfway through the problem. Tests get way harder as the year goes on with all of them making 84% of your grade.

An above average teacher in a below average math department. He definitely cares about his students, and explains concepts in a way that isn't too difficult to understand.

Professor Wang is a great person and it's clear that he is passionate about the subject, but his lectures are hard to follow as he jumps from one step to another without much explanation. I did decent on the weekly quizzes and homework, but the exams are 85% of the grade so it's hard to bounce back after the first exam if you do poorly.

Lots of passion for math, explains things very well.

Professor Botong is a great math professor. His problems given in lecture are incredibly helpful when preparing for exams since he quite literally will go over exam questions. He will go out of his way to prove certain theorems and not just tell you they are true because they are true. He is incredibly efficient with his time so be prepared.

Overall, Botong was a great professor. His lectures may sway from the main topic at times, but he mostly stays on track. His use of analogies and enthusiasm make the lectures far easier to get through.

I REALLY enjoyed Botong Wang's class and loved his teaching style. Just go for lecture and use office hours - ask your TA's during discussions as many questions as possible. It's honestly what you put into the class - people usually find Calc 2 really hard, but its all about practice and preperation!

I got a 3 on AP Calc BC in high school so I had to take Calc 2, but this class seemed significantly harder and covered more topics than AP. Botong himself is good and answers questions well. I absolutely tanked the first midterm and spent the rest of the semester trying to at least get a C because over 80% of the grade is from 3 exams.

Botong himself is a great guy who genuinely cares about his student. However, his lectures aren't well structured and often leave you confused. I stopped going and learned the material online instead and did fine after that. Majority of grade(84%) comes from 3 exams without much opportunity for fixing your grade.

Seemed like he cared and was passionate about the material, but wasnt great. Hard to understand at times, jumped all over the place including going backwards during problems making it difficult to follow. Made mistakes fairly frequently as well. Also told us something wasnt gonna be on the midterm and then it was 20/100 points.

He didn't announce that the class wasn't curved until after the second exam. I got a low score on the first exam and started meeting with a tutor weekly and got an A on the second exam but I still had to drop the class because I wasn't going to get the grade I needed. It's possible to pass, but get a tutor, you will learn way more than in lecture.

If you pay attention in lectures and ask your TA questions (during discussion sections), youll be good. Prof. Wang is enthusiastic about math and makes lectures not too boring. He is a good, nice choice.

You can't expect to skip lectures for this class. I had technically already taken this class at a different school so I thought it would be an easy A; however, you are discounted points for your strategy in answering the question and your strategy needs to be in-line with what was discussed in lecture (even if your answer is correct).

Math 222 lectures are very straightforward; the entire time is spent thoroughly walking through very helpful examples of different Calc 2 concepts. Exams are tough but definitely manageable if you follow along in lecture.

Wang genuinely wanted to help us understand calc, but his lectures were scattered and all over the place. His lectures were v fast paced, and you HAVE to pay attention, attend, and complete ALL the hw. The only thing I liked abt this course was that the exams were v similar to the hw, so everything was fair game. Good person, j not the best teacher

Professor Wang is a really good lecturer and definitely the best Calc 1 teacher! He gives options for extra credit and dropped the lowest test and homework scores for us. He often gives details in lectures that are confusing but the exams do not focus on these. Exams are straight forward and consistent with the homework. Also very nice and helpful!

Botong Wang is a really sweet professor who clearly has a lot of passion and cares for his students. Lectures can get a little dense but don't get bogged down in details or proofs. Exams are a good reflection of the course material and he often uses problems from the homework. Go to class and do the homework and you'll get a good grade!

Literally just reads theorems from the textbook. Is incredibly confusing and teaches unconventionally. Over a hundred students left this course because of how confused they were.

You can tell hes smart and knows his stuff but his lectures are extremely unclear and hes left a class of over 200 students frustrated and confused. He has 6 tests he gives out and everytime a student asks a question his answer is I dont know. Dont take him for calc 1 or youll regret it immediately like I did. Do not recommend to anyone

Topology is very difficult to understand on your own but Botong is the man and did a very good job explaining things--lectures were recorded, and he shared his lecture notes--which was super helpful so that I could just concentrate on understanding the content which is very nuanced. Exams were very fair. Homework was tricky but very manageable.

Not sure why my experience with Botong is so markedly different than the other reviews. I thought he'd be great, but it pains me to say that he's not. You can tell that he cares, but the lectures are so unclear that attendance is at 30%. Endless "Proof is left to the reader," "I'll let you think about it," and "This should be really clear."

Sometimes he gets a little confused halfway through a proof and will start over, or will change notation halfway through a definition. Other than this he is an excellent instructor and gives great examples and makes theoretical map very tangible for students just being introduced to topology.

The class overall was tough but not too bad. Go to lecture and do homework and you should be fine. Botong is very smart and often gets ahead of himself and off topics but usually brings it back in and is a good teacher in general.

Took Prof Wang for Math 222 in Spring 2016. Having recently completed the UW Calc sequence, he was without a doubt the best of the three profs I had. If youre taking 222 and Botong is an option, take it with him. You wont be disappointed.

Prof Wang is an expert in topology, and his 551 course is pretty reasonable. He gave only one midterm and a final, but the problems were a decent mix of old homework problems and new challenge problems. He can be pretty helpful in office hours, and it seems like he is primarily interested in the success of his students.

Botong Wang is a very charming professor, and he made the Math 222 straight forward and clear. If you are wondering to take his course, you can definitely take it. It will be fun and easy.

Professor Wang is a very caring and patient professor. He listened carefully and answered each question step by step in the lecture. He did really well on explaining the problems to students. I like his math class.

Botong's exams are very straightforward and mostly comes straight from previous homeworks. Although the lecture is very fast paced, he's very willing to take questions and encourages students to attend office hours if anything is unclear. Makes you work for the grade, but Calc 2 isn't an easy class and it's possible to do well as long as you try.

Overall he explains things pretty well and sometimes jumps to answers but is extremely willing to answer questions. The material itself is what is really hard but if you're putting in a lot of time to do the homework and understanding how to get the answers (not just doing it to get it done) and reading the textbook you'll probably be ok.
