About this rating

Raw average: 3.36/5 from 25 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Everyone is being so dramatic. Some lectures were boring (its OTM) but Prof Batt truly tried his best to make it engaging as he can in class by providing simulations/demonstrations & guest speakers. He's clearly passionate and is avail for help. Midterm was difficult, but final was easier (you get a full cheat sheet). An A is doable with hardwork.

He'll go to the extent to "record" the lectures to be "nice", but he'll only record his voice and not any of the calculations so that the recordings are of absolutely no use. He also makes attendance mandatory. I'm sure he's competent, but he is the opposite of a nice person.

It was his first semester teaching this course, so it was very disorganized. I learned nothing in lecture and found it a waste of my time. The first exam was extremely difficult, but I think he realized his mistake and made our final exactly like the homework. Overall, not a hard class- just feels like a waste of time.

Prof. Batt is an exciting, intellectually curious, and motivated professor. The only thing to be aware of is that exams do not match prior work.

DO NOT TAKE HIM. All his classes weren't fun to stay in, an hour was an eternity and his class weren't like the exams. His lectures were all over, didn't help with problems that were 3 mins. I never wanted to go to class but he made attendance mandatory even though he records lectures.

Offering recorded · Fall 2026

Bob Batt delivers engaging lectures with interactive activities and guest speakers, making the content straightforward and exams manageable with a cheat sheet. However, as a first-time instructor for this course, he faced criticism for a disorganized Canvas, a confusing restructuring, and mandatory attendance. Some found lectures unhelpful and exam content misaligned with homework.
