Basil is knowledgeable, and explains things well. He is a very good scientist. However, his assignments are very disconnected and hard to follow, and feedback often contradicts the prompt he gives. He is almost never consistent. Readings are fine, but he is a very subjective, unhelpful, and unclear grader.

Basil truly wishes the best for all of his students and makes his free time your time. I really enjoyed his course however it is definitely challenging in ways that were unexpected. Definitely not a course you can skip at all, I don't think you could pass unless you had lots of previous knowledge on the subject while skipping.

Basil might be one of the best professors I have ever had. Each course I take now, I hope that he is teaching it. Not only is he able to excellently and clearly articulate difficult spatial problems, he very genuinely cares about his students and their understanding of the topic. He also makes himself extremely available for student support.

Basil was my favorite professor I have had in college. He explains complex concepts in a very digestible way. Always open to feedback or explaining things in a different way.

I loved Basil, he is so sweet and impressively knowledgeable in so many different areas. I liked the material in this class, but I sometimes found the expectations for assignments to be unclear and there was often an extreme amount of work, which could be frustrating. However, I would still recommend taking a class with him if you can.

I loved Basil. He's a great prof and a great person. He really cares about his students and cares about their learning and understanding of the topic. He has some issues with technology and with being clear about assignments, but overall gives good lectures. This course was a lot of work, but I feel it was worth it because I learned a lot.

Basil is AMAZING, he takes it upon himself to get to know his students and will go to great lengths to help his students understand concepts during lecture. He is very kind and very understanding, and it would definitely be easy to get an A in the class as long as you apply yourself.

Did online learning very well. Hilarious pre-recorded videos that actually teach you concepts concisely, in-class lecture, and some small discussion. Hard to finish tests. Sometimes unclear about homework expectations. Overall, one of my favorite classes. Don't buy the book.

He's an absolute beauty of a human being. Best professor I've had in 4 years of schooling at UW Madison.

Dr. Tikoff is a great professor who really cares about his students. I is very personable and works to know all of his students.

I had him when he was a graduate student at the U of M. Nice enough guy, and smart. I approached him after class to explain it to me. He went through it once; I still wasn't getting it. He said, "Well, it's in the book" and walked off. Glad he's bothering to learn to be a teacher rather than just a research monster.

Basil is a wonderful guy, he is accessible outside of class and very responsive to email. This class was the worst I have ever taken at UW so far. Basil gave us a a bunch of homework each week and did not communicate clearly the expectations for the assignments. He failed to get anything back to us in a timely manner. Would not recommend.

Basil is a great man. He tries to make the class as user friendly as possible, so he is open to suggestions which will make the grading and assignment easier. Every time you gaze at his luxurious handlebar mustache you will feel at peace with yourself and the fact that you are getting an A in a 4 credit science class with no lab.

Literally the greatest professor I've ever had. He takes the time to explain things and demonstrates topics really well.

He expects you to go in and learn all of the tools for structural geo from the TAs who are no help at all. His test are ridiculous, unpractical ( you would never see the examples happen in real life or you would never bother to do that cross-section with out more info). He is funny. There is no book or online help. tests harder practice problems

Best professor I've had. Wicked smart and extremely interesting. His lectures are fascinating and he injects subtle jokes that are hilarious. Not the easiest professor I've ever had, but he truly cares about the students, and if you put effort in, you'll do just fine.

He is a great guy who's funny and means well. Sometimes, his teaching can get a little confusing and his tests are pretty tough, but he does it for the benefit of the students and not be mean. One of the most engaging professors I've ever had, and he loves to help students out.

Basil is incredibly passionate and personable. He often overloads you with information a little, but is happy to step back, re-explain and re-word things that don't make sense to students. He's very approachable for questions in his classes and likes you if you take an active interest and try to participate during classes. He's also a huge nerd.

The best thing about Basil is he cares more about students' learning than grades. Ifyou try, you're probably going to get a good grade in the class. He actually let us choose what we were going to learn about. Very open to questions, actually loves them. He's very.... eccentric. Funny guy, one of my favorite professors

Basil is awesome! He doesn't normally teach 203, but he's probably the reason I got an A. He's able to explain things multiple ways and there are no surprises on homework and exams.

Definitely a gamble- your success will depend on your initial interest. Basil's personable attitude is a plus- he makes it a point to know everyone's name. But he's a flake and hard to contact outside of class. Given it's unorthodoxy, it's pretty easy to feel like a lab rat in this course, and sometimes the work makes you question its relevance.

Basil is a great prof. He makes sure he knows everyone's name in the class within the first month which makes everything much more personable. If you don't understand something just say so and he will think of a different way to explain it because his thoughts don't always make since to others. Looked forward to going to class every day.

He teaches easy classes but he is soooo boring, its unbelievable.

Great teacher. very funny and interesting. class is fun and he is very open to questions. very down to earth and easy to talk to. book work is confusing, but not bad. take him if you get the chance.

Basil ROCKS! Take this class if you can: a P sci credit and a WHOLE lot of fun. Makes learning all of the different kinds of science fun and interesting: I haven't enjoyed sci so much since 5th grade. Best part of the class: he allowed us to ask ANY type of questions we were curious about, leading into multiple INTERESTING tangents. I love Basil!

Great class, so much fun and you can't beat the field trips. Sometimes hard to follow reasoning but good prof.
