Arif is an good lecturer who makes his courses both challenging and rewarding. His material is incredibly useful, and he is always helpful during office hours. If you're willing to put in the effort in and outside of class, you'll learn a ton. Highly recommend his classes.
He reads his slides like its a speed reading competition. His real world examples may appear valuable if you have no work experience, but they are over simplified to the point of being useless other than for a chuckle. The advanced topics in this senior level course would benefit from the depth and research of a phd graduate, which Arif is not.
Arif's courses are very intensive and well-structured. I had to spend a significant amount of time outside of class in order to keep up, though I learned a huge amount!
I often question if the Real Estate program at UW-Madison is actually nationally highly ranked or not. Arif makes me think no. This 1 credit class was, and I'm not exaggerating, 5-6 credits worth of work and time. Arif goes too fast through his "slides," and assumes you already know a lot more than you might. Stay away unless you know your stuff.
I had Arif for Excel, Argus, and 661. He's a seriously awesome lecturer and his material? It's like gold, super useful. The class is fast-paced and challenging, but your efforts will pay off. Oh, and Arif? The guy's a legend during office hours and he's lightning-quick with emails. If you're considering his class, I highly recommend it!
great capstone experience in REAL EST 661 Arif was a very intelligent professor I liked that he invited many industry professionals as guest speakers where we got to learn a lot from, amazing experience I will miss UW
Arif is great at teaching, and he is very helpful during office hours. If you want to do well, start the material early in the week and understand everything on the quizzes. The exam is made up of the toughest quiz questions, and he will explicitly tell you what you need to know. I enjoyed his class, but it's definitely a lot for 1 credit.
Arif is great! He tries his best to make real estate applicable to the real world and fun. Knowledgeable and hilarious guy, one of the best at the Wisconsin School of Business
Arif is awesome. In RE631, he gave great lectures and was excited about all the topics he presented in Excel. Great help during office hours, always willing to explain how to get the answer for questions. One of the best RE professors here. Lots of work and fast-paced for 1 credit. Test grades are heavy, they can be challenging and require study.
Arif is not a good teacher. His lectures are a waste of time because he just reads the slideshows he asks you to read before coming to class. This class teaches you excel and ARGUS. The test questions require you to have more knowledge than you were taught, and are unfair. I spent more time on this 1 credit class than the rest of my 15 credits.
Taken during COVID so all lectures are online. Heard Arif was a great but taking him online was a let down. A lot of material while moving way too fast. Once a week lectures that are not engaging. He just repeats information on the slides and works through a spreadsheet which is boring. Material is interesting but difficult and had to teach myself
Arif has a lot of knowledge on what he is teaching, however a terrible teacher. He does not explain how to do anything or give you information that you need. I spent about 10 hours a week on the 1-credit excel modeling course. He grades extremely hard, do not expect to pass the class. He also despises of macbooks for no reason.
Arif is a hilarious dude and a solid teacher. His class teaches awesome concepts and is done via case competitions and exams. The exams, however, will determine your entire grade.
Best professor in the Real Estate department by far. Well-defined and relevant curriculum. Lecture is incredibly entertaining; Arif's commentary is insightful and hilarious.
Arif is by far the best real estate professor I've had as an undergraduate. His priority is literally to provide real estate students a leg up for when they are beginning their profession. Expectations of students are clear-cut and he can be extremely entertaining. Take as many courses with Arif as possible.
