Did not seem to care about her students

This was a 201 course so a big chunk of the grade and time spent for this class was focused on the final essay. This is not an easy A class and the essay is grueling but the class is incredibly interesting and professor Haynes clearly has a deep love for and knowledge of women's history. Her passion showed in lectures and I personally loved it.

Has no interest in helping students!

Stinky binky prof

The content of this course was extremely interesting. Prof. Haynes was accessible during office hours and very passionate/knowledgeable about the content. Lots of reading. Some online quizzes were tricky but doable if you took good lecture notes, an A was possible if you did the work. She used specifications grading so assignments were pass/fail.

From the start the professor was clear on her opinions and made it seem like if we did not conform to them we would not do well in the class. Electronics were not allowed in class and if were seen with them, our grade would drop drastically. Spoke way too fast in lecture and did not respond in timely matters. Horrible experience as a freshman.

Professor Haynes is very knowledgeable and passionate, she gives inspiring and fascinating lectures. I would really urge anyone to take HIST134, you learn so much! Grading standards are generously adjusted throughout the semester.

class is interesting but for a 100 level class, the work is dense and although there is a "curve", it's hard to pass hw and quizzes even if you are participating in the course load and actively paying attention in class. If you miss any detail you may not be able to pass her "curve"

At the start, she suggested it would be easy to get an 'A' with low-stakes quizzes and a balanced grade book. However, as the semester progressed, she removed these easy elements, relying heavily on low-stakes quizzes, causing many students to struggle to pass due to the challenging coursework. Would not recommend the professor, but course is good

This is a dense class. The syllabus is somewhat unclear making due dates difficult to understand. Quizzes are relatively easy given you do the work. The lecture material is interesting, but lecture can be very long and hard to engage with. There is one optional (not if you want an A) writing assignment and your grade is not updated on Canvas.

This professor cares more about people potentially distracting one another in her class than the students actually taking the class. She did not allow any technology in class and did not agree to Mcburney Accommodations either. She did not try to cooperate when students addressed concern with her grading which basically sets you up for failure.

You definitely need to show up to lectures and put some effort into papers, but it's a great, DOABLE course as long as you actually try. Prof Haynes is very knowledgable, and her lectures are fast-paced but extremely interesting. I just asked her to send me slides to annotate, which was helpful, and she was very accommodating. 10/10 recommend :)

Doctor Haynes is extremely knowledgable and passionate about what she teaches. I found the lectures to be fast-paced and eye-opening. The quizzes in this class that others are whining about do not count towards your grade and are retaken until you pass, they ensure students know the info before they begin to prepare for debate. 10/10 class!

Professor Haynes has good intentions, but the layout of this class needs to be majorly improved. Every other week a paper needs to be written, and she barely explains the evidence, and then it is graded harshly when she did not explain it well. Just a poorly executed class.

information you needed to remember for testing always felt irrelevant. i was always surprised at the questions; at one point i had to remember specific verses from the book of genesis rather than the actual content.. like huh?

She is horrible she doesn't clearly explain assignments and does not each well at all.

Prof Haynes is EXTREMELY passionate and intelligent about GWS. But her lectures are CRAMMED; she speaks way too fast to comprehend, let alone type. She doesn't post the slides online. I was LOST for the first few weeks. Lots of reading! There aren't any exams, just three papers, and an ePortfolio you'll have to submit at the end of the semester.

Haynes clearly knows her stuff, but she's super intense. I never wanted to raise my hand in lecture for fear of her picking apart my answer. Despite this, it's clear she's truly passionate about her field, and I could appreciate the vastness of her knowledge. She obviously cares that her students are learning something relevant.

Hayes has some of the most genuine care for her students that I've seen in a professor, she is super responsive to course feedback. It's true that the lectures are crammed, but its super interesting material and your grade won't be hurt if you can't keep up with them, the papers and homework and easy and open-ended, so sweat!

April was extremely passionate and knowledgeable amount women throughout history. This was an empowering class, and although April has a very calm demeanor, she definitely had fire in her lecture meanings. Read the prompts carefully and prepare well for the in class essays. Meeting with TA's also helped a lot- made getting a good grade very doable!

She is definitely knowledgeable about her subject, and she's always available if you need help! The lectures were super heavy and there was a lot of dense reading, but it's definitely manageable. The three assigned essays are all in the exact same format and about two pages. The material is really interesting- you'll learn a lot!

This class made me decide to become a gen&ws major! Her lectures are awesome and her PowerPoints make things super clear. It is not an easy class, but having a teacher that so so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject ensured that I always showed up and put in the work.

Just had an awful experience with this class. Lectures are boring and fast paced. Electronic devices are not permitted in the class so you have to write your notes, which is difficult to do when she is speaking so fast. Expects you to finish reading a book in one week so if you are taking more than 13 credits DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

I hated this class even though I am a GWS minor. The lectures we so fast paced, the homework was annoying and irrelevant, and the essays we were assigned were graded harsh. I am a 4.0 student but this class took me down

Very intelligent woman and knows her stuff, sometimes talks a little fast though. Her lectures are crazy intense but you learn a lot. Can tell she is passionate about what she does.

Apri is a passionate professor and I loved having class with her. You have to truly love the topic of gender and history to gain something from the class, however. There is a good deal of reading outside of class and note taking that you have to do during lecture. The tests are all essays and the prompt is giving before hand, so you can prepare.

Tons of reading and unclear writing prompts. Lectures extremely fast with vague powerpoints to outline the topics. First half of the class is kind of dry but topics are way more interesting towards the end. Overall, this class took way more effort and time than expected for a 100 level class.

This class is treated like a 300 or 400 level course with the amount of work that is expected from students. Prof Haynes is not personable and is very serious... The grading criteria is very unclear. The PPT slides for lecture have few words and it is hard to write fast enough to get accurate notes. Loved the topic though!

Lectures are are extremely difficult to follow. She puts one word on the slides & then talks for 5 minutes on that one word, making it impossible to take comprehensive notes. Papers require you to read an entire book & then write a paper with a vague prompt & bad instructions. Class could be good, but not with her as a prof. DO NOT take her classes

Treats you like children and makes you print off ridiculous amounts of readings (as computers are not allowed in her class). Tough grader and unusually difficult essay prompts.
