Professor Bauer did a careful job making the points clear. I enjoyed the class and her lectures
Professor Bauer and Zoet co-taught my class, and there was a big difference between the two. Annies lectures were hard to understand and very much more difficult to process and take notes on. I would not recommend to take her class, it is not as is advertised as an "easy science for non science major" Bauer made it so much harder than it should be
I went into the course thinking I would enjoy a class on national parks, but it ended up being overall stressful because of all the different topics that are covered in such a short time period. It heavily relies on memorization, but the exams were luckily MC. Two professors taught this class and I preferred Prof. Zoet, but that's just my opinion!
There were two professors for this class, and I preferred Bauer a bit more. Knew what she was talking about and answered every question that was asked in lecture. Interesting lectures. I did take Geosci100, which definitely helped me, class would've been harder if I didn't have the basics down already. Exams more difficult than they should be.
If you are interested in this course, don't let other reviews scare you. I always looked forward to attending lectures, found them very interesting, and feel like I learned a ton over the semester. Professor Bauer is very kind and knowledgeable, and clearly has lots of experience in the field, making her a great source for further questions.
Dr. Bauer made geochemistry interesting with every lecture. She was always engaging and her lecture slides were visually stimulating. She is stickler for due dates though.
I didn't find this class to be as difficult as many are saying. It's online, so quizzes and exams were easy enough if you knew where to find answers, never once did I study or stress for an exam. Overall I found it pretty interesting and I learned a lot.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. Dr. Bauer is very clearly proficient in geology, but her class is not suited for an "elementary" level course. A lot of effort was put into succeeding, but nothing paid off. I would not recommend this course for anyone who does not plan to use geology in their future.
This class is almost impossible. I did everything for this class, I watched all lecture videos, took notes, and reached out for help when needed and I still did terrible on almost all tests/quizzes. I do not recommend this class if you don't need to take it.
This class was so hard for no reason. I thought I would take it for fun coupled with the harder intermediate courses I was taking. I watched all the lectures, took detailed notes, and completed the study guides. I still would get Cs on every test. I never once got 100% on a test or quiz. Also the lectures are hard to follow.
For a 100 level course, this might be the most unnecessarily hard class for no reason. You could go from getting a 9/10 on the quiz and have studied the material, watched all the lectures, done all the reading and still get a D or F on the test, which by the way, is most of the averages on the exams. If you are taking this class for fun, don't.
This was the hardest class I've taken in college. I thought this would be an easy and interesting 100-level course, but I read/watch everything, take notes, and for some reason started with an A but have been getting Fs or Cs on the most recent quizzes - which you have every week. This class caused so much unnecessary stress - do not take it.
Annie is nice but her class was painfully hard. I was initially excited for the course because it covered National Parks but I found myself so stressed that I never enjoyed the content. The quizzes/exams are atrocious. I always watched lecture, went to office hours, asked her for advice, etc. but still got D's every time. Tears were shed.
GeoScience109 was SO hard, especially for an "elementary" level course. At the beginning of the semester, I, along with other students, expressed to the professors how difficult the content was to follow and they basically ignored the situation. They adjusted what was "passing" THREE times because so many people were doing poorly in the class.
I would not recommend Prof. Bauer's GS109 class, particularly in an online format. For an elementary level class, it was extremely difficult and the lectures seemed disjointed, trying to pack a LOT of content into a short window. I did appreciate that she made herself available outside of class to answer questions, and she was very kind.
