Bent is an amazing professor, you will learn SO much from him. The assigned readings seem like a lot, but all the learning is done through discussions on them so definitely read before class. Super knowledgeable and caring guy, if you care he will go out of his way to make sure you succeed. Feel like a better person bc of the way he made me think.
He is definitely a character, that is the best way I can describe him. Lectures are pretty useless but are required. Everything you need for the exams are on the slides and the exams are pretty straightforward. He can't get enough of the Irish potato famine.
Dr. Bent is decent at teaching content, but his lectures are laced with a pretentiousness (MIT alum) that's a turn-off for interest in the content. Unlike prior course professors, he requires textbook reading, and you won't understand the lecture content unless you read the book. He also becomes quite frustrated if class participation is lacking.
He was a very good teacher with well structured and informational lectures. Tests and labs were very easy.
If you didn't take AP bio in high school, you'll find that professor Bent goes very fast and it can be hard to keep up. The exams are the basic indicator of your grade and are very unpredictable. Good science class for non-stem majors, and make sure you actually read the supplemental readings as they're a huge part of exams. Textbook unnecessary.
Dr. Bent was one of my best professors this semester. I recommend sitting in the front row as he is an amazing speaker and is really good at taking complex ideas and simplifying them down to a level that is easy to understand.
Dr. Bent's lectures would go by pretty quickly and most of the material (especially in the third unit) seemed like common sense. He liked interacting with the class and he does take attendance once in a while. I would recommend.
Class is easy but all test grades are completely subjective. He held 3 review sessions throughout the semester and didn't show up for 2 of them.
This is one of the worst professor I have ever had. Very poor communication skills and difficult to interact with.
Very disorganized, not good at lecturing. The lab was interesting, but this class is not worth taking. Should come to lectures because he occasionally makes you hand in responses to the lecture that are worth a point. Easy class
Definitely a good "science" class for people who arent very good at science and an easy A for people who have a background in science. His lectures are all over the place and but if you are able to get the main points from each you will do fine on the exams. The exams are pretty subjective but easy if you answer with his perspective.
class was pretty easy there were a lot of pointless readings but they were still on the test. There were review session for the test but they usually were no help. Overall the class wasn't too bad and the labs were somewhat interesting probably depends on your TA
WORST professor ever, asked him about the grading of my exam and he said "i don't care, i'm right and you're wrong." Gee thanks for the explanation. The final had 8 points worth of matching random quotes with there authors. WHY IS SOMETHING LIKE THAT ON THE FINAL???! I got an AB in this class, trust me, DO NOT TAKE IT, this professor should be fire
BY FAR the worst professor I've ever had. He's completely unprepared, lectures are useless, boring and mandatory, don't bother buying the textbook as you never open it and the description of this class is terrible, turns into social science 2 weeks in. Exams are irrelevant to class material and graded on opinion, DO NOT ARGUE WITH THIS MAN
Bent is a terrible professor. He spends no time prepping for class, is super disorganized, and unbelievably opinionated. Do not take this class, or have this professor.
Excellent professor! He shows the importance of science for non-scientists. Professor Bent likes active-learning and always has activities to engage everyone in the class. Definitely recommend!
This guy was a great teacher...and a really interesting class overall--great for non-science people. He made the classes interesting, however, some readings seemed unnecessary (those outside of the textbook) but were still on the exam. Great class though!
Amazing teacher that loved the teachings...He really made the class easy.
