This class is to get credit for internships, so I assumed most of it would be pretty chill, but she gave a lot of work. Most of it is busy work so don't stress. She also grades everything 100% so its hard to fail this. She also doesn't penalize you for being late. I turned something in a month late and she didn't care.
This class was a decent amount of busy work, expect mostly weekly discussion posts to do with the professional world and politics plus some occasional projects. She is organized, understanding if you have a lot going on, and I recommend this class for easy Poli Sci credits and it's not hard to get a good grade.
For PS315, I spent around 3 hours per week completing assignments for this class. Because I took it to get credit for my internship, to which I had already devoted so many hours, I was surprised it added more work to my weeks. They are all busy work and are graded easily, but something to be aware of if you plan on taking the course.
Easy credits and easy grade. But busy and very very unnecessary works. It is an internship course, I am already doing enough but useful tasks at work, stop making the students do stupid discussion posts that you don't even bother to look at. You just make the students burn out on unnecessary assignments.
Dr. Gangl supplements the 3-credit internship course with lots of online discussion posts, weekly check-ins, and other assignments that take up time but offer only limited insight. The course is useful for the credits but somewhat tedious. However, Dr. Gangl is overall very nice and is very approachable for questions.
This is an online class but it requires you to work in an office of some sort. I worked for a legislator and you have to put in (I think) 6-8 hours per week. It isn't bad at all and you learn a lot. I recommend this experience to anyone interested in state politics. There are a project and a paper due at the end of the semester based on your work.
Busywork online class for an internship - easy way to get 3 Poli Sci credits. Flexible on deadlines and work content. Hard to find an easier class.
Amy Gangl is a sensational professor. This is one of those classes where as long as you do the work and read, you will do great. The articles we read are very interesting and you learn a lot about politics and government. There are weekly discussions, post-chapter quizzes, knowledge checks and two short papers in the semester. Highly recommend!
The class was just a lot of busy work on top of having to intern a certain amount of hours per week. All the assignments were super annoying but generally pretty easy
Basically the course is just busy work--but pretty easy busy work. Just do it, and you're pretty much guaranteed a 100%. (Or at least a solid A). Prof. Gangl seems to recognize that political internships are difficult, and thus seems to try to ensure that the mechanism for getting credit for them is simple. Added bonus is that it's all online.
Great professor. She keeps the entire class engaged and provides extremely thought provoking content. Professor Gangl wants her students to do well and grades relatively easily. Just go to lecture and you'll get an A. Still possible to get an A without going, but there are in class assignments that count for points.
Professor Gangl's class was AWESOME. I don't think you need to be there every day in order to do well in the class, but you will WANT to be there. She makes the class relevant, interesting, and engaging. Great discussion in class and she's always happy and knowledgeable.
Amy is the best professor I've had at UW. She is engaged with current events, not just textbooks. I cannot recommend her highly enough.
Take this class!!! There are a handful of required papers but they are not time consuming and the three midterms are easy. The class is interesting and typically talks about current topics. Amy is a great, engaging professor and I would highly reccommend taking any class of hers!
I also did her PS267 class. She's a really good teacher, keeps the class engaged and provides an in depth analysis of the topics considered. Both these classes have significant overlap so I recommend taking them at the same time - saves on studying. While you dont need to go to lectures, I found myself going anyway - they are THAT interesting.
Professor Gangl is super easy. You do not need to go to lecture to get an A. She puts all of her lectures up online and they mostly consist of YouTube videos and The Daily Show snippets. Exams are super easy, just look at the review questions. I would highly recommend this for as an easy A kind of class
Really thought-provoking class. A few papers based on books read. Tests are based on readings. Not difficult if you do most of readings or at least skim them. Class is one big discussion--no participation points, just talk if want. She includes youtube clips & current events. I would highly recommend!
