Very passionate instructor, knows how to give engaging and thought-provoking lectures, and is easily accessible outside of class. English 444 has been one of those classes that makes me feel privileged to be receiving an education and to have such an intelligent teacher.
If you like book clubs and history, this class is for you. Read three books over the semester with some added readings. Professor Shubert is very passionate but some of her lectures have politics in them. Might depend on what your class topic though. Grading is pick your own grade then complete the list of assignments under that grade track.
Professor Shubert is the best professor I've met in my college. I took 313 twice with different topics: global film history and cinema realism. The films and readings were engaging and inspirational. I like her contract grading policy. It encourages me to learn with motivation and enthusiasm without overstressing or anxiety.
Professor Shubert is ok, seemed a little out of her depth, sometimes more interested in what she was saying than what students had to say. Strict but unclear requirements, lots of reading which was fine but it never felt like Professor Shubert knew what she was doing. Could be a good class but with a different teacher.
I loved this class and really enjoyed the professor. She's super nice and her lectures are interesting and funny. I highly recommend this class. It is an upper level English class, so expect a lot of reading, and there's a lot of discussion. Loved it.
I dont think Professor Shubert is the worst professor youll ever have, but the class itself is awful. The movies you watch are super boring, no way the majority of kids have even heard of them before this class. Weve learned a lot about feminism, which isnt bad, but I didnt sign up for a genders study class. Unless you LOVE foreign film, dont take
There are still four weeks left until the end of my endless torment in this class and I am more than confident to say that this class will be THE WORST CLASS I've taken in my 21 years of life. The professor showed absolute no proficiency in the content she is teaching on and relates every film made in human history to feminism. I suggest drop ASAP.
Took this class to learn about global cinema history. To learn the prevalence of certain styles and forms that developed since the invention of cinema. We're about halfway through the class; we've spent about 40 percent of the time discussing cinema history, 60 percent on feminism. Not a bad thing, just not what this class should cover.
