I love prof powers. Such a sweet woman who wants everyone to do well in her class. Sometimes the lectures were a bit dense but she makes time to turn and talk and have whole class discussions which breaks things up. The class has a ton of reading, but it is 4 credits after all. Go to her office hours if you have questions - she is kind and helpful.
Literally so nice. Lectures are super interesting and assignments not demanding. Love.
I took CHICLA 151 and I was not expecting to like the class at all because I normally hate history, but I loved this class! She only gives a weekly reading and a paragraph response for homework. She grades on participation. She really cares about her students and gives extensions if you need them. I would 1000% recommend.
Great Professor! You can tell that she really cares about her students and tries her best to help them. There is a few hours of reading per week but it is very doable, the TA's are great at running the discussions. A great class to take even if you aren't a History major.
I learned so much in her class and honestly she was so helpful for finding sources on my final paper. She is completely understanding if you have a problem or need help. One of the best history teachers I've had so far as a history major!
Professor Powers is extraordinarily kind; it's clear that she wants every student to succeed. She's very responsive to emails, and is extremely generous with extensions. Her grading criteria is quite clear as well. As for the class, I would probably avoid it if you're just looking for credits; it's relatively easy but I found it quite boring.
Professor Powers is a wonderful professor and an amazing person! Homework is a lot of reading primary & secondary sources that expand on content from lectures. Discussions dive into specific readings. Tests are short essay questions based on readings and they're graded very leniently. There are also three essays to write throughout the semester.
I really enjoyed taking Professor Powers' class this semester. She is so caring and emphasizes the importance of student well being. The content is interesting and the papers and quizzes are definitely manageable. Would highly recommend!!
Professor Powers is an amazing professor. Each lecture was planned out and was very interesting. She is very kind. She makes sure to do what is best for her students and cares for each student's wellbeing. Once again, professor Powers is a great instructor, possibly one of the best I have seen.
History 151 with Professor Powers is far and away my favorite class I have taken at UW - Madison. She is a good person, a great teacher, and her lectures were always interesting and engaging. Her grading was always clear and the structure of the course was very student friendly. I absolutely recommend this course.
Allison is great! I thought this class was pretty easy overall, especially if you've taken US history in high school. Lectures are important, but if slides are accessible online go for that because she mainly reads off slides and elaborates on the details. Tests were free responses with a detailed rubric.
Took Hist 151 for my ethnic studies and was blown away. Professor Powers is so professional. She and the TA really want you to improve your historical analysis skills and succeed in the class. Would heavily recommend learning US history over some of the other joke ethnic studies courses offered.
I took this class in Fall 2021 and Professor Powers is one of the best lecturers I have ever had. Her passion and knowledge of the topics makes the class much more interesting and enjoyable. She is quite lenient with assignments and receptive towards student suggestions. Go to lecture and put some effort into the assignments and you'll get an A!
I loved Professor Useche as a person. She is very caring and the class is easy to get through if you do the readings and participate in discussion. She teaches history through examples and I thought it was a unique and interesting way to do it. I recommend her to everyone!
She is so nice and the class isn't too hard if you listen and attend class regularly.
Professor Powers is such a fun and sweet professor. She is extremely responsive to the class often changing due dates and is very flexible when it comes to extensions. Participation does matter and as long as you either have someone send attendance codes or are at lectures and discussions it's a significant grade booster. Very easy A.
Powers is an incredible professer. Easily one of the most consistent and knowledgable professers I've ever had. Shes nice, smart, and grades well. TA's are helpful too. Get ready to read a lot of primary sources. You get about 6 every week. Other than that, amazing class and I would take it again if I could.
