Great guy. He explains the content really well and is low key hilarious. Be prepared to do a fair amount of homework.
This site is a little too harsh. He explains things in a clear and concise manner and is quite helpful in office hours. However, he can come off as rude when answering questions.
Difficult lectures and homework, and harsh grading make your life very hard, but he is one of the most responsible professors I've ever seen. Those harsh gradings diagnose your problems and help you correct your imperfect intuition. Be prepared, you will learn a lot.
Clear, direct lecture style. Lectures moved quickly, but 521 has a lot of material. Responded well to questions, though in a somewhat discompassionate manner. Fair grading, homework load, and exams.
Makes exams very difficult and grades harshly.
Fast, but effective lectures. The class itself is pretty difficult, but he explained stuff the material well.
Very unclear lectures. Be prepared to ask your TA a bunch of questions.
He is objectively a pretty decent teacher, I found his lectures to be engaging, albeit on the faster side. However, on a personal note, I found him to be arrogant. When I asked him questions, he made me feel dumb for not understanding instead of explaining. Calc is a difficult class, and it is frustrating to reach out forhelp, only to be belittled.
The lectures were boring, and Prof. Waldron moves way too fast. Lectures basically consist of him teaching for 20 minutes then doing unhelpful example problems the rest of the time. Prof. Waldron seemed arrogant and acted as if what he was teaching was common knowledge. By far my least favorite class this semester.
Prof. Waldron is seriously underrated. He discussed every test subject in-depth in lecture, his explanations were, for the most part, easy to follow, and his speaking was very clear. Overall, I don't know what else you could want from a MATH221 professor. All the people giving Waldron 1's are probably just upset with the class itself, not the prof.
I understand how some people might not follow his way of instructing. Prof. Waldron is a good instructor. Some criticisms of the difficulty are on the math department and not the professor. I found that this course depends on the discussion section and the TA significantly more than the lecture and the professor.
Professor Waldron did give a lot of relevant proofs and examples during lecture which were helpful. But the way he explains things is very confusing and if you don't have any background in calculus, this class is impossible. Overall, I feel like he isn't a great teacher and you can tell he doesn't really care about student's passing the class.
I took Calc AB in high school so the majority of class was just review. Prof W does a good job of showing examples along with proofs so that you fully understand where each concept is coming from. The tests are weighted very heavily but you should be fine as long as you practice each type of question that could be on the test until confidence.
He comes off as a nice guy, however, his teaching style is not for everyone. I do not like this man. Do not take any math courses with him. The practice tests for the exams don't prepare you for any of the work you're going to be tested on. He doesn't give great help, and I wish I had chosen a different prof.
I took AP Calculus AB in high school, the equivalent of Math 221, and still managed to do worse than in high school. Professor Waldron explains very easy concepts in very confusing, unnecessarily hard ways. It almost feels like he is making it harder than it is.
I personally really enjoyed his class. He does write small on the board, but he gives lots of examples and even makes class somewhat entertaining. He's always happy to answer questions and is clear about what he's explaining.
Does a very poor job of explaining what he is doing on the board. Writes very small and hard to read. Often times I don't even know what he did the whole class and I have resort to youtube to teach me what he did.
Incredibly hard to follow, all over the place. His handwriting is undecipherable and makes up content he lectures on off the top of his head so it is not at the level the content for homework and quizzes is at.
Mans makes you feel bad if you don't understand something. Insanely difficult and inconsistent grading. No leeway.
Very arrogant and an awful lecturer. He goes very fast and doesnt explain material well at all. Completely unhelpful with questions and makes you feel stupid for asking. Not sure how he is qualified to teach this class... would not recommend at all.
Very impatient to questions. Very Arrogant. Totally confused why people with this kind of characteristics choose to become a professor. Very fast during class. And cannot finish on time EVERY lecture.
