He derives pleasure from torturing students with long difficult homeworks. He doesnt help students and ridicules them for asking questions. Avoid him if possible.

Horrible professor. Horrible explanations. Horrible class. Physics is supposed to be like a fun math class, but he makes this class unbearable. So horribly bad at explaining things it's actually crazy. He being employed by UW makes one question the reputation of this school. God awful lecturer and hater of students.

God awful professor. Thick accent that makes it hard to follow his lectures. He does not care if his students learn anything from the class.

I wrote a +ve review earlier mid-sem but I wish I had waited for the hell that came at the end before opening my mouth. Horrible class taught at a graduate level to undegrads. Class strength fell from 45 to <20 in the first 3 wks *I wonder why*. Dense homeworks, doesnt help students and ridicules them for asking doubts. Avoid if you're into thermo.

Alex Levchenko is a theorist who does not understand how to teach undergraduate courses. Only take a class from him if you have a PhD in math. He doesn't understand the level that his students are at, mathematically and in physics. He doesn't explain any of the physics concepts, he just speaks math during lecture. He cares about pedagogy at least.

Had him for 311 and shuddered when I saw he was teaching 415. Levchenko teaches pure theoretical physics. If you dont have math chops good luck as the class is 90% analysis. He isnt willing to change this aspect of his cour Plays around with the sound modest models he can in lecture then slams you with insane homework. Id probably avoid

Prof. Levchenko is an amazing instructor for 415. I say this having no particular interest in either Thermal Phy or Stat Mech. He makes you understand the material. But at the same time, the homeworks are objectively the hardest assignments I've ever taken. But he is flexible and has given many class-wide homework extensions when we all struggled.

This class sucks. I think it is way too hard for the level that students are at when they take it. Lectures are confusing and homework is impossible. That being said, Levchenko is a pretty nice and interesting guy. The only qualm I had with him is that he seems somewhat unwilling to answer questions.

He's probably the kindest person I met as an instructor. His homework is indeed brutal, 2-5 problems but would take an entire week. You will learn a lot if you do it though. Just a comment about 311 with Levchenko, it's more of a class in physics, not just mechanics. I'm taking him for 415 next semester. Take him if you are serious about theory.

This professor is utterly terrible. How well you do on homework is basically up to chance. He very rarely covers in lecture what's on the homework and the notes he posts are impossible to follow and borderline useless. Levchenko basically gives you a pairing knife and asks you to fight a blue whale for homework. Honestly has no idea how to teach.

Let me start out by saying that professor Levchenko is a very kind, helpful person. He looks out for and considers his students, and does care about there well being. However, even as someone who did quite well in his class, he rushes through topics, assumes students know more than they do, and assigns HWs harder than he has taught.

One of the worst professors I've ever had. Onellion is 100x better, and Onellion is terrible. Ridiculously hard homework problems, which contain such gems as unsolvable integrals and references to notation that is never mentioned in class. Does not example anything well enough to be understood, and does nothing but spew math with no rhyme or reason

Extremely knowledgeable about the material and tells funny stories. Packs A TON of information into lectures and expects students to spend a lot of time working outside of class. Textbooks are definitely helpful but also not a necessity.

Solid teacher, very knowledgeable and takes student input. Assignments are meant to challenge students, but grading is fair and consistent. Funny guy with an accent that is pleasant to listen to.

"The man can integrate anything" -- A. O. "He can write with both hands, one expanding for large arguments of a function while the other expands for small." --N.H.

Excellent physics professors. Always made himself available to students. Would highly recommend.

Great Prof, Hes ukranian so his accent is thick but he honestly cares about the class learning. He provides all his notes online. His homework is really tough but his exams are all very straight forward and are often from the book.
