Professor Bal is fantastic, he is hilarious which makes class enjoyable. Informative, but super easy class. He lets you know exactly what is on exams. pre-class readings and videos can be long but are needed for in class group discussion which is ~1/2 of each class
Lectures were interesting, didn't cover the textbook during them. You're expected to read it on your own. I enjoyed the volunteer work, there are great opportunities. You had to read a chapter, watch 2 videos, and submit a reflection answering 1 question of your choice about the chapter each week. 3 exams not cumulative & get test questions before.
This class is pretty easy. If you do discussion posts you get 100% on them. Attendance is mandatory which I don't like because I don't learn anything during lectures. It's more discussion based and I wish he would talk more about the textbook than the two media pieces we have to watch/listen each week. He does give the test questions beforehand.
Very nice professor and is very fair in grading. Gives the questions for the exams ahead of time which is really nice. Lecture is pretty much mandatory but I don't think I learned anything within the 3 hour lecture which was annoying. Easy class if you need service learning.
This was very much a class that was dependent on your work outside of lecture. 3 hours is really long, even though there are breaks every hour. His lectures did not go into any detail beyond what is in the readings from the textbook. If it weren't for in-class activities almost every class, attending lecture really wasn't important for your grade.
Bal's RP&SE class was amazing, and my favorite class ever. It was very stress free and gave me a new perspective on things. It required a service learning component to work with individuals with disabilities, and that was a great experience and looks good on the resume. I highly advise taking it, and he is the nicest and funniest guy!
Professor Bal is a really nice guy. The three hour class was a bit frustrating though. Having to sit there and listen to a dry lecture without taking notes or having any other stimulation was incredibly tiresome. It made the lecture feel like it lasted three days instead of three hours. Service learning is amazing and easy to get an A. Ok course.
This class is really fun! The service learning was easily the best part of my semester. Everything is laid out really clearly and he goes over it every class. The class is long but he gives breaks which is nice. The tests are easy and the weekly assignments are too. Attendance is mandatory and there is sign in 2x a class.
Awesome prof! knows his stuff and interesting... easy class if you do the work. If you have time for 25 hours of volunteering then take this class. Great opportunities! Favorite class of this semester.
This is a 3hr lecture, but he fills the time well. He gives lots of breaks that usually go longer than he says they will. Everything is given to you before hand, so it's pretty hard not to do well. There are lots of in class activities, & attendance is taken 2x a class that count for a chunk of your grade, but do the weekly questions & you're good!
Overall Professor Bal is amazing!! Although the lectures are pretty long, he gives plenty of breaks and keeps the class interesting through guest lecturers, Ted Talks and other videos. The tests are very straight forward and he gives you all of the questions beforehand. He makes sure everything is well explained. Loved the service learning project!
Favorite class of the semester. It's one three hour lecture per week, with a 25 hour service learning requirement. Lectures have plenty of breaks, and are usually accompanied by a guest speakervideo clips. Assignments are clear-cut and easy to do well on. He's compassionate and helpful, and values discussionengagement in the class.
Amazing professor
Brillian man!
great
Go to every class-you get points, you have to do 25 hours of volunteer work and write a paper about it. Tests are pretty easy just make flash cards from book and take Myeducationlab.com quizes (the disk comes with the textbook). He uses many questions from it!. Overall, he was OK and class was decent. I would take the other professor though.
He's about experience, as long as you have some input, he'll be happy with you! His tests are solely based on the text, so do the readings and quizzes that comes with the book. Also, if you remember to do all the assignments, there mostly "give me" points and stay for the whole class, the second 1/2 always has in class assignments.
