ANDRE WINK

Definitely not my favorite class. Lots of supplemental materials and assignments you don't need to do. Tests and paper is easy. However, it was really hard for me to want to go to class. Dr. Wink is very monotone with a thick accent. There are also no slides to go with lectures. The only think you should buy is the Empire book

This professor was very clear and goes in depth with what he presents in lecture. However the lectures can be dull. I skipped a lot and got an A by doing readings and attending the discussions.

Does not use a powerpoint during lectures, so it is easy to doze off and not pay attention. He is a very smart guy and knows a lot about what he is talking about, but it is hard to pay attention during lecture. Class is an easy A if you do the readings and pay a bit of attention during class.

Professor Wink really likes to listen to himself talk; he is a very old-school, chalkboard type with a thick, but understandable, accent. To eek out a passing grade, you either need to do the readings or show up to lecture, but not both. Most of the concepts are described abstractly rather than specifics, which is part of what makes the easy grade.

Bought the book but really didn't need to use it, he summarized it during every lecture (although the power lectures were very difficult to get through). One 6-8 page book review and one midterm

Worst class I've ever taken at UW. He never responded to emails, and never had office hours. Only two grades in the entire class, two groups of 4 mini essays. However, no guidelines were given and then we were graded harshly. Unrealistic amount of reading (had to buy 10 books from Amazon). Lectures were dry/disorganized, it was hard to stay awake.
