He's very very familiar with the material, so he isn't just putting formulas up on the board. That said, he lectures almost directly from the textbook. He's happy to answer questions, though might answer it just repeating the way he lectured it. Homeworks are hard if you want to understand what you're doing, exams are reasonable though.
