  • Obtain a complete medical history.

  • Exhibit proficiency in the surgical management of: pre-operative encounters, intra-operative encounters, post-operative encounters.

  • Perform the following clinical procedures: sterile technique, appropriate wound closure, post-operative wound management.

  • Perform appropriate physical examination with proper technique.

  • Interpret diagnostic testing used in the evaluation of surgical patients.

  • Develop effective communication skills to establish rapport with patients and their families.

  • Provide education to patients on topics such as modifiable risk factors, pre-operative preparation, post-operative management, and lifestyle changes.

  • Formulate a differential diagnosis for conditions encountered in surgical setting.

  • Formulate appropriate diagnostic care plans.

  • Communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, ensuring seamless coordination of patient care.

  • Display professional behavior in the medical setting as indicated in the preceptorship evaluation.
