Introduces the intellectual history, methodology, and theoretical concerns of the field of ethnomusicology. Examines how knowledge about music is formed, then explores how music becomes entangled with and productive of social identities and processes. Explores variety of musical styles and aesthetics from multiple social and geographic contexts through the lens of ethnomusicology. Not intended as a broad survey of musical styles around the world.
