What you’ll be able to do

  • Make various types of sand molds and determine the proper gating system to produce a sound casting in aluminum, copper, and ferrous alloys

  • Conduct the proper melting and pouring procedures to safely cast aluminum, copper, and ferrous alloys

  • Determine an appropriate casting process for a particular casting based on geometry and production run size

  • Produce an investment casting

  • Use simulation software to verify solidification and fluid flow of castings

  • Correlate casting parameters with alloy grain structure and mechanical properties
