  • Perform a focused history and exam and develop an assessment and plan for the most common disorders seen in an outpatient gastrointestinal (GI) practice: irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

  • Identify recommendations for colon cancer screening in patients at average risk and those with a family history of colon cancer.

  • Identify the appearance of common gastrointestinal (GI) pathology on endoscopy.

  • Summarize the appropriate risk stratification strategies and appropriate management of gastrointestinal (GI) hemorrhage.

  • Develop a differential diagnosis for acute )gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding.

the class

Observe routine and advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures in the Ambulatory Procedure Center and potentially in the Intensive Care Unit. Participate in the outpatient gastrointestinal (GI) clinics approximately one half day a week, which will include exposure to Inflammatory Bowel Disease, functional GI disorders, hereditary GI cancers, esophageal disorders, and pancreas and biliary disorders.
