What you’ll be able to do

  • Describe how the criminal legal system in Wisconsin and the United States impacts the health of incarcerated people, including mental health and community health concerns.

  • Identify individual and community health challenges for a person once they are released from incarceration, and propose ways to mitigate these challenges.

  • Interpret clinical guidelines for ethical care of incarcerated individuals

  • Recognize ethical conflicts that exist in delivering care in carceral facilities, as well as issues surrounding access or lack of access to relevant research.

  • Develop concepts/best practices for system-wide improvements in the health care of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals.
