About this rating

Raw average: 4.80/5 from 5 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Student experience

the class

Learn and analyze the conversations religious groups had around the creation of the First Amendment in the 1780s and how these conversations developed as the First Amendment was interpreted and reinterpreted throughout American history, with a focus on American Jewish communities' engagement with the Supreme Court as a primary case study. While keeping majority Christian concerns in mind, attend closely to how minority religions and communities have attempted to translate their religious practices into the overwhelmingly white Protestant Christian idiom of the Supreme Court.
