What you’ll be able to do

  • Classify sedimentary rocks on the basis of thin sections, hand samples, and outcrops.

  • Identify sedimentary structures and deduce their origin in relation to sediment transport and deposition.

  • Measure stratigraphic sections and produce complete and accurate field-based written descriptions thereof.

  • Describe the origin of stratigraphic successions and their relationships to depositional environments and sequence stratigraphy.

  • Integrate field observations into a coherent geologic interpretation.
