Seepage and Slopes
Seepage and Slopes covers practical seepage effects, groundwater flow, and stability analysis of natural and man-made slopes under various loading conditions.
Summary
Recent recorded grades — Fall 2021: 3.26 GPA, 50.0% A/AB (n=34 letter grades); Fall 2023: 3.28 GPA, 46.7% A/AB (n=30 letter grades); Fall 2025: 3.40 GPA, 66.7% A/AB (n=15 letter grades).
What you’ll be able to do
Characterize and classify slope failure
Identify stability risk factors in generalized slope design
Apply soil and rock mechanics and strength principles in the context of slope stability investigation and design
Determine strength parameters of soil materials under saturated and unsaturated conditions
Understand pore fluid pressure in underground environments and its effect on manmade structures integrated within the soil as well as the failure potential of differing geometries
Design slope remedial plans for earth structures subjected to varying physical properties, overburden and pore pressures, and restrictive geometries
Act as leaders of the small groups they have been assigned for the mini design project
