Focus on biological treatment processes and the kinetics of biological growth and substrate degradation. Set up and calibrate model, configure and size plant processes, and explore the impact of configuration and kinetic parameters on treatment efficiency. Evaluate impacts and tradeoffs for advanced treatment scenarios with regards to chemical use, energy needs, sludge production, and plant footprint.

Combination of theory and laboratory practice to study basic unit operations and processes in environmental engineering. Emphasis on water and wastewater treatment processes, such as coagulation/flocculation, chemical precipitation, filtration, adsorption, activated sludge, anaerobic digestion, and substrate utilization kinetics.
